Hello, I “fixed” the issue. I decided it was about time for a fresh windows install (windows 8 64x) so I went ahead and formatted the drive, and installed windows. Installed all my drivers, installed dxtory, vegas, and lagarith (no other codecs or codec packs) and gave it a shot. I can now preview the video in the timeline without sudden crashes MOST OF THE TIME. It still does it! But far far less. I don’t know what is causing this behavior but I can at least use sony vegas now for the most part! Thanks for the help guys.

I have no idea why I am having such issues with this, everywhere I look, no one seems to be having THIS problem. For some reason I suspect something or other is corrupt, or maybe it’s some kind of hardware issue. I don’t know but it’s making me go crazy! lol

Thank you for trying to help me, at least!

Okay, uninstalled k-lite, dxtory, vegas 12, lagarith codec. Reinstalled dxtory, vegas 12, lagarith in that order. Recorded a 10 second clip, put it in vegas, put the clip in the timeline, hit play.. and it froze up vegas again. 🙁 Same thing. Would this have anything to do with my processor or chipset?? I have a AMD Phenom II X6 1055T… I don’t know, I can’t think of anything else!

I just installed it and am having same results. I put the video in the vegas timeline, I hit play and about 3 seconds in the video pauses, the audio keeps playing.. if I hit pause or stop the whole vegas program stops responding/crashes.

    Ok, back from work.

So dxtory has 2 filetypes, .avi or just raw. If you save it as a raw file, you have to run it through a builder included with the program that just makes it into an .avi. So as far as I can tell, .avi is my only option.

There are a bunch of codecs avaliable to choose from in the program, for instance before this I was trying the x264vfw codec which has identical problems as I have now with the lagarith codec. 🙁

I will capture and upload ~5 seconds of video and post it later, as a sample.

I don’t believe it was working before either, or at least the same sort of thing was happening. Would you like me to uninstall the klite codec packs? I can also uninstall and reinstall it if that’ll restore the codecs. I would upload a clip of raw video but I have to head to work, I will be back later tonight in 5 hours or so! Thanks.

I think it already is.. in the description box below it says:
Video: 29.970 fps, 1280×720 Progressive, YUV, 8 Mbps

How can I make sure of this? I had a suspicion it has to do with FPS, but I’m not sure how to set that up.

    Right now I am using:
Sony AVC .mp4 “Internet 1280×720-30p”, and in “custom” I have selected “use gpu if avaliable” as my gpu is quite more powerful than my cpu, and does make a difference in render time.

I think the actual video itself is 29.something fps and not 30.. how can I set this up correctly? Thanks
