I am trying to get dxtory videos to work with vegas pro 12, but it seems to crash vegas almost every time!

In dxtory I am recording with the lagarith codec which is wonderful, I am recording gameplay and I feel no lag at all when recording from the game (unlike fraps). The raw videos are saved as .avi and play fine in VLC. When I put the videos in vegas, I will be watching the preview window and after a few seconds, the whole program stops responding and crashes. I have found if I decrease the quality of the preview to “draft” it will not crash, but anything good+ will crash vegas. It’s very frustrating.

I have installed the k-lite codec mega pack and the x64 version as well.

Does anyone have any advice? I tried to include as much info as I can, if you need more please ask. Thanks.

Loading K-lite codec Wasn’t a good idea. It over writes better codecs that Vegas may already have. Did it not play these files before you installed the K-lite? Do you have an online storage site you can upload a small one of these clips we can download and test for you?

I don’t believe it was working before either, or at least the same sort of thing was happening. Would you like me to uninstall the klite codec packs? I can also uninstall and reinstall it if that’ll restore the codecs. I would upload a clip of raw video but I have to head to work, I will be back later tonight in 5 hours or so! Thanks.

I don’t believe uninstalling it will help as Sony’s codecs have already been over written. Codec packs are never a good idea. If there’s a specific one you need, find it and install it, not any packs. You may have to uninstall the pack and Vegas, re-install Vegas. It seems Vegas doesn’t like these files. Can you capture as mpg or something Vegas will work with? Did it come with any software that can convert the files to something more Vegas friendly? Can you open them with Windows movie maker and export to another file. .AVI is just a wrapper and can still contain unusable codecs in Vegas. John R, you know more about this than me. Got any other ideas?

    Ok, back from work.

So dxtory has 2 filetypes, .avi or just raw. If you save it as a raw file, you have to run it through a builder included with the program that just makes it into an .avi. So as far as I can tell, .avi is my only option.

There are a bunch of codecs avaliable to choose from in the program, for instance before this I was trying the x264vfw codec which has identical problems as I have now with the lagarith codec. 🙁

I will capture and upload ~5 seconds of video and post it later, as a sample.

I couldn’t open it in Media player or Vegas. So I downloaded the codec for it here,
    https://www.free-codecs.com/lagarith_lossless_video_codec_download.htm
Now Vegas opens and renders it fine. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

I just installed it and am having same results. I put the video in the vegas timeline, I hit play and about 3 seconds in the video pauses, the audio keeps playing.. if I hit pause or stop the whole vegas program stops responding/crashes.

I would uninstall Kline and Vegas, reinstall Vegas and this new code.

Okay, uninstalled k-lite, dxtory, vegas 12, lagarith codec. Reinstalled dxtory, vegas 12, lagarith in that order. Recorded a 10 second clip, put it in vegas, put the clip in the timeline, hit play.. and it froze up vegas again. 🙁 Same thing. Would this have anything to do with my processor or chipset?? I have a AMD Phenom II X6 1055T… I don’t know, I can’t think of anything else!
