There is info on QT vs. QT Conversion in the archives and in the manual. But basically, QT export is a completely lossless, digital pass, whereas, QT Conversion requires re-rendering and a generation loss. 99% of the time you want QT export.

Be forewarned, if your sequence is smaller than your original footage, the stills from FCP will be that size. In this case you would open your HD material in QT, leave them full size, then export stills.

I’m in a hurry so I didn’t get to read your whole post, but I use the same camera and settings, here’s your first mistake:
In you FCP sequence, go to Sequence>settings and change the compressor to ProRes. You will have to render the timeline, but then you export with QT, NOT QT Conversion. Put that in compressor and choose 90 minute best quality, in DVDSP you will have to set your track to 16×9, but it will work great.

Your iMac has a mini DVI out so you can get a second monitor on the cheap. On your MBP you can run out of DVI and do the same thing, I have a 17″ widescreen Sony monitor running from my MBP and happily edit on it every day.
BTW, what do you mean by “full HD” on your iMac? What flavor of HD, and what kind of drive is that 1tb?

Well, he also can just go DVI out to the ACD, it can’t be calibrated for broadcast, but it can get close, and doesn’t cost $900. This advice from Graeme Nattress.
BTW any FireWire deck can probably run composite out to the old monitor, what it will look like I don’t want to know.

My guess is that your menu setting for playback standard is not set to HDV which it may have to be. At least this is true for it’s big brother, the A1. That’s what I’d check first.
