There’s your problem. Text in DV is always pixelated. Try changing tht compressor to ProRes or 8 bit and render.

H264 is a delivery format only. Not for editing or archiving. If you’re concerned about file size I would recommend Photo jpeg. Otherwise, try ProRes or Sheer, both way less file size than 8 bit uncompressed.

As far as quality, HDV just doesn’t color correct very well, plus you’ll be looking at massive amounts of rendering time, but overall the quality should hold up.

Lyric PanZoom Pro and Digital Heaven DH box. But, a great stand alone for this is Fotomagico, very smooth, fast and cheap. Highly recommend it.

The latest version of DVmattePro is completely re-written, works great in FCP.

The advantages with ProRes are you have a true iframe format, better keying, transitions and color correction, compositing etc. There are a boatload of posts on this here and on the HDV forum.

Mpeg2 muxed files at about 800mbs 640×480 would be a good place to start.
The beauty of Digital Kitchen is it has a maximum bitrate estimating feature, so you can see how the quality is without going overboard.
