Pan Zoom Pro is absolutely the best solution, I have tried them all and it wins hands down. BTW it is not a filter it is a generator, and it will give you moves as smooth as silk. It has amazing ease in ond out controls, rotation, freeze, and a built-in flicker filter. You can animate stills as much as 5 times faster than in the motion tab.
Probably the best thing about it tho, is that the start and stop controls require no keyframes, so you can put them on the same track and transitions have no keyframes to push around. So the speed of the move is controled by the length of the clip.

In my workflow, the only way I deal with media from DVDs is to capture through a player connected to my deck. Set capture to uncontrolable device.

You can’t put a keyframe in a track, it has to be a clip. To globally change the levels in a number of tracks you could nest them.
Better yet, use Soundtrack Pro.

Don’t panic, the quick mask is only one way of doing this, and it’s button is on the bottom of the tool pallet. Then you just paint with a brush, click back to the program and you get your selection which you can save. Delete the background, (make sure your object is on a layer not the background).
At this point, I usually bring the psd file into FCP as a sequence rather than a targa file, and then copy and paste the layer(s) you want into your main sequence. This way you’re guaranteed aa transparent background. I have found that since CS2 and FCP5 alpha channels on Targas don’t always come across properly, so I have made the psd sequence thing a regular part of my workflow.

The CHV Text Collection is excellent, but outside of Live Type I don’t think any of them allow you to see the background as you are typing in the viewer. 90% of the time tho, I do my titles in Photoshop. You could do this and export a stili frame for your background, but I don’t understand why it’s so critical for you to see that, it only takes a second to move the type around.

Jeff is correct, when you export through FCP it automatically adds compression markers on every cut. This article tells the details. Worth reading.
