Yes, the stabilize plugin is great, if you can wait for it. EXCEPT, that it can yield some strange effects when there’s a lot of motion other than camera shake, it is unpredictable. I agree with David about cloning, but you still have the clip length magilla to deal with even if everything goes okay.

Since you know AE, here’s what I would do if I were you.

Take every source clip that needs work and copy to another folder somewhere. Take them all into AE and stabilize, which, BTW takes about a tenth of the time FCP would. When you render the fixed clips, add a 1 or something to the original name, make sure you render with exactly the same length and spec as your original clips. Save them into the folder with your original clips. Then toss the originals and remove the 1 from the names, FCP will re-connect to the fixed clips.You can probably do all this in the time FCP would take to analyze one 15 minute clip.

Do me a favor will you? Please go here and read the specs. It clearly states that for component in this monitor needs one of 3 cards. Are you sure yours is the same monitor?

That’s fair I guess Dave, except that when a good shooter and lighting person are on it, it’s pretty darn okay. I don’t really use it for HD delivery tho.

I stick by my method of using native HDV, which is the method recommended by Graeme Nattress BTW, in spite of the fact that other codecs may be easier to handle, why take an extra render hit? HDV works perfectly well in an 8 bit timeline. Do it all the time.

Motion works fine, but if you are committed to staying in FCP for whatever reason your best bet is a generator plugin called PanZoomPro from lyric.com Wonderful ease controls and no keyframes required. Takes a bit longer to render but it’s worth it.

Also, if you are doing sections of photos only that all need to move, I HIGHLY recommend Fotomagico. It is blazingly fast, renders beautifully, all you need are timings for your stills movies and you’ll be done in no time. Real timesaver. I animated over 100 stills last weekend in less than 2 hours, including the renders.

IMO your first 8 bit idea is the best, and what I always do. 10 bit for what you’re doing is a waste of drive space, nothing more.
