In my experience with a PCD20, the P2 Formatter application only works when the device is connected via Firewire. I get generic icons and P2 Formatter app doesn’t see the P2 cards when connected via USB. I have this issue with 10.6 and 10.7. It appears to be a problem with USB only on these systems. Firewire works fine.

This probably doesn’t help you though since the PCD2 is USB only.

Anyone else have any insight into USB and P2 on a Mac?

Are you using USB2 or 1394b? On both Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and 10.7 (Lion) the P2 Formatter application does not recognize the cards when I have the PCD20 connected via USB2. But it works fine when I have it connected via 1394b. Also, when connected via USB2, the cards show up on the desktop with generic icons. When connected via 1394b, the cards have a P2 icon with the number indicating which slot they are in. Since there is no speed advantage on the PCD20 when using Firewire, I was anticipating setting up a station where it is connected with USB2… however, USB2 doesn’t appear to be fully supported.

I have the same issue on a Mac mini running 10.7 and a Mac Pro running 10.6. Anyone else experiencing this?

For a lot of reasons, but foremost, if I have to rent four cameras and four DTE recorders, I’m not sure that I’ve found either a better or more cost-effective solution. We have four cameras to use for this project. And the Telestream box will have all of the video imported into editing system before the camera guys can even switch their cameras off.

I’m thinking: renting $10K of equipment will be cheaper than $50K or $100K.

I had the same problem as you. A quick Google search revealed that others had the same issue, but I didn’t find any one who had reached a resolution. Perplexed, I strolled over to my coworkers suite and tooled around for a few minutes and discovered that he had several more files in his /Library/Application Support/ProApps folder. Most notably I was missing a file called Soundtrack Pro Integration.bundle inside the Bundles folder of this directory. I copied the files over to my system and restarted FCP. Everything appears to be working now.

My system had been upgraded. (Knowing full well a clean install would have been better.) Perhaps it was a problem with the upgrade or a faulty update along the way. At any rate, I suspect that if you don’t have a coworker that you can steal these files from, a clean install of FCS should fix the issue.
