You’re good, Shane. And fast. Thanks for the prompt replies!

Here’s the thing. Both of these applications seem pretty damn good, and quite robust, but I don’t know any freelancers that are using them. I think that people might be scared to plop down the big bucks for such a massive program, when they really only need a few of the things that are offered with the program. It seems like a great idea for a post production house, but I’m not sure it would be for the smaller, independent editor. I am still looking for something maybe a little more streamlined and that would be a plug-in of sorts for FCP, but haven’t located that, yet.

    Any other ideas, anyone?

    (Thanks again, Shane.)

Thanks, Shane! Anyone know of any plug-ins for logging that works directly with FCP?

March 6, 2009 at 11:55 pm in reply to: Editing Video in Adobe Photoshop (CS 4)

    Hi Mike,

Again, thanks for the quick reply.

I can make edits to each individual frame without making layers from frames, true. Basically all edits are done on the one layer.

Let me give you an example of what I’m trying to do. If I make a change by using the Blur tool to a specific portion of a frame (say background behind my subject), I can create a depth of field (that I didn’t originally have). And I can do this to a frame no problem. However, I’d like to be able to do this to the whole clip without having to manually create the blur on each frame. Not only would this be laborious, but every frame would be slightly different than the last. I’d want the same exact Blur throughout all frames of the clip.

    Knowhatimean? Any suggestions?

    Thanks a ton!

    Hi Mike and Richard,

Thank you for responding to the post.

I actually do have CS4 Extended. I’m able to Import the quicktime video without a problem. What I’m trying to do is make Photoshop changes for each frame. I am able to get a layer for every frame (in the Layer Palette) by using the Make Frames From Layers command. (I also seem to be able to achieve this if I Import>Video Frames to Layers.)

After I work on each frame (ie layer) I seem to be unable to then properly export. I do actually get a Quicktime movie when I Export>Render Video, but the video ends up only being a still image of whatever the last layer was that I had highlighted with the “eyeball” (in the Layer Palette). Make sense? Am I just having some sort of layer issue? It’s definitely frustrating to go through and make color, curves, filter changes to each separate frame, only to have the last highlighted layer/frame (in the Layer Palette) export as my video.

    Thanks again, guys.

I’d like to mention that when I say ‘cheap and easy,’ I mean, without the use of AfterEffects or purchasing some other software or filters. Any way to, say use the Blur filter, on a specific area in a clip and then track the motion of the area, in Final Cut Pro?

    Thanks!

  • i know this is going to sound ridiculous, but i’ve made this mistake before.. have to tried making sure that your canvas window is set at “fit to window?” sometimes a button gets hit and that window goes to 100%, which will cause your vid to appear jumpy. restarting the program will resort back to the original window size. could be what’s happening.

November 16, 2007 at 12:53 am in reply to: Way to Rotate Clips 180 Degrees?

If you go back and look at the actual thread that I replied to you’ll see it wasn’t in reference to your suggestion. It was, in fact, referencing Mr. Escandon’s helpful remarks. Silly.

And if you’ll re-read my initial post, you’ll also see that I actually did what you suggested before posting my question. It’s just that I was looking for a way to do this with all clips at once, instead of having to open each one up separately in the Browser.

    But, hey, thanks anyway! 😉

    Hello,

This almost worked. Well, I mean, it did actually work. However, it made duplicates of all of the clips (and rotated them properly) when I placed them back into the browser. I was hoping it would simply rotate the actual clips in the Browser (without making dupes).

    Any ideas?

    Mark,

Thanks for the thoughtful and intelligent response. While not necessarily a solution to my problem – doesn’t sound like there is one – I at least now understand what we’re dealing with. Very thorough and informative, all that one could hope for in a response! Thanks again, man.
