Do I need to make sure the Mbps of the card is higher than that which I’m recording at or does it not matter?

An example of what I’m unsure of after… I’ve been looking at SD cards today. I’ve noticed some I like price wise that are 64gb but they have a data rate of 34mbps. If I’m recording on the Gh2 at 50mbps (I believe it has to be hacked to achieve this) does that cause a problem? Should I be buying a card that has a higher mbps than what I’m recording at or does it not matter.

The highest 32gb card I found was 45mpbs whereas 64gb I found 50+ (although it was rather expensive) so does 32mbps not go higher than 45mbps meaning I should just buy 64mbps?

Also whats better for recording video on – SDHC or SDXC

I think, tho, DLSR to get it to where I need it to do my work may just prove a little too expensive… but I shall see…

Thanks again really good to get a different perspective – even if it does confuse my decision making! ha ha

I’ll be shooting interviews, live events, weddings, basic corporates (for bigger stuff I always hire in crew and equipment).

I need something I can trust to capture sound and vision to level that is professional if it isn’t the most beautiful creative footage.

Thank you – thats very informative and very helpful.

My only problem with DLSR’s is the lack of XLR/decent sound recording options and I hear about a lot of issues if you do a lot of run and gun filming i.e auto focus, handheld isn’t really an option etc

Is this all true or just mistaken advice from the internet?

I’d love a DLSR as, like most, I love the cinematic look – but I need something that I can get going with and get HQ results with sound as important as visuals. The filming I’ll be doing won’t allow me to have a sound person or ability to have a separate sound unit.

I have installed Perian, Mpeg stream clip, flip4mac, VLC

Hi thank You so much! Your so helpful! I shall b taking all that on board. Although I may got for the retina 15″ because best portability is important and I don’t need a optical drive! 🙂
