GH2 – Memory Card recommendation
Posted by Chris Newberry on July 20, 2014 at 10:21 amHi there
Just brought a GH2 – can’t wait to use it!
Going to need a memory card obviously! Was wondering what peoples recommendations are? Or what to avoid?
Was looking at 64 gb and 32gb SDXC or SDHC. You can get them on ebay.co.uk for £25 but there are cheaper ones for £11! Wondered if people recommend staying away from these cheaper ones or have people found they tend to be as good?
Any recommendations/help/tips on this would be great
Many thanks
Chris

July 20, 2014 at 2:33 pmAn example of what I’m unsure of after… I’ve been looking at SD cards today. I’ve noticed some I like price wise that are 64gb but they have a data rate of 34mbps. If I’m recording on the Gh2 at 50mbps (I believe it has to be hacked to achieve this) does that cause a problem? Should I be buying a card that has a higher mbps than what I’m recording at or does it not matter.
The highest 32gb card I found was 45mpbs whereas 64gb I found 50+ (although it was rather expensive) so does 32mbps not go higher than 45mbps meaning I should just buy 64mbps?
Also whats better for recording video on – SDHC or SDXC
Thanks

July 21, 2014 at 2:47 amGo for the Sandisk Extreme Pro series. Really good cards for shooting HD videos.

July 21, 2014 at 8:38 amThanks! Great stuff!
Do I need to make sure the Mbps of the card is higher than that which I’m recording at or does it not matter?
Thanks

July 22, 2014 at 12:10 amYes, for sure. Unless you’re shooting 4K, the extreme pro cards should be good. The U3 cards offer much better performance at a higher price. Most of my industry fiends use the Sandisks as they are easily available here in Singapore.
A couple more options.

July 23, 2014 at 1:39 pmAny class 10 card is fast enough. Sandisk extreme are 45/MB/s, Extreme Pro 90MB/s. The only real difference is how quick you can transfer the card onto your computer (assuming you have a decent USB3 card reader, Cheap ones cam be under 10MB/s). For me the extra money for the pro ones is not worth it. Kingston also make some reasonably fast cards and they are a good make, I use them sometimes.

August 11, 2014 at 10:20 amHi everyone!
Was wondering what people think of Sandisk Ultra for recording GH2 video onto?
It’s almost half the price of Sandisk Extreme and before I opt for the Extreme I’d see what people think of the Sandisk Ultra brand
