I’ve just realised that the above only happens if i’ve rendered the text events as video files before dropping them onto the timeline, and not if the text events are pro titler.

Why doesn’t the empty timeline ‘black’ conform to the broadcast colours restrictions??

    Hi,

I normally just speed the footage up as much as you can, then render that clip as the same type of file as the source, making sure that the settings are correct (ie if it’s progressive footage in the first place then render it as progressive footage etc etc). I then drop that file onto the timeline and speed that up. You can keep doing this until you get a clip of the length and speed that you’re after.

    That’s what i do anyway…

July 28, 2011 at 9:34 am in reply to: How to change media path?

I have a similar problem where i use Vegasaur to archive a project that contains about 10 nested projects. All of those nested projects also contain at least one nested project (one of them will usually contain around 20 nested projects (wedding introduction sequence) so i have nested projects within nested projects. Now, when i move this archived file to another drive, for backup or duplication, i have real problems with opening the file as the drive path has changed. I then need to go into EVERY project and ‘re-connect’ the media. This is fine when it’s one project that contains media from one folder but when i have all those small nested projects that need opening it’s a real pain.

Is there any script, or something, that can make it easy to just change the drive letter for the whole project?? All the folder names are the same, it’s just that first drive letter!!

    Any ideas?

  • Hi there. Thanks for the reply. The thing is that i’ve got two media streams on one track, having just used the multicam editing tool to edit the two, so i can’t easily get all the clips (Events, to introduce the correct terminology)onto two separate tracks. There are around 50 clips per media residing on the one track.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks

    Chris.

    Thanks for your time.

Hi, yes i am opening the newly trimmed project.

I just tried an experiment with a long wedding ceremony that i’m currently archiving. It seems to have kept the media effects info (one long clip that lasts for 25 mins) until that media ended and a new one begins (i changed the tape). The new clip doesn’t hold any of the effects info (colour correction), unlike the original, which i also loaded at the same time, to compare.

In this particular instance, the clips were edited in the Multicam feature of Vegas (with a ‘b’ cam), but i’m sure i’ve seen the same thing happen when the clips are edited normally. I’ll have a look at other instances and see if i can see a pattern.

    Thanks for your responses.

What you have said, Dave, makes perfect sense. I AM rendering to different drive to that of the source files but the source files are spread not only across one drive, in different locations, but also over to another networked computer via a 1GB connection. The main drive that most of the source files are on is connected to the PC by USB as i haven’t got around to getting the correct E-SATA card to utilise the RAID facility. I’d imagine that all of this leads to a bit of a bottleneck situation, which is what i’m seeing.

Just out of interest, do you think that having some of the source files located in places with quite long directory addresses also causes a problem? We’re only talking about 100 character long or so…

Right, i’ve found the culprit and it’s doesn’t seem to make sense.

My Computer renders at 100% of CPU when i render a single project from it’s timeline. However, when i start using nested files it renders at around 30-38% of the CPU.

Why does it appear that Vegas is giving me less power just when i need it??

At the moment my 10 min project is taking around 3 hours to render. It is quite a complex project but still, 3 hours!!!. where’s the rest of the CPU gone!!

    Thanks

    Thanks for the pointer.

The only external effect that i’m using is Magic Bullet Looks 1, and that’s only occasionally on the timeline. The rest are effects/pans/crops etc that are all from within Vegas.

Sorry. Also, i’m using Pro 8.0c.

Just tried rendering another project, one of the simpler ones that i mention previously, and the CPU shoots straight up to 100% as normal. Must be something to do with the .png files that i’ve included.

    Any ideas?
