June 22, 2006 at 5:21 pm in reply to: Behind The Wheel Of The P2 – a production journal with photos from the set of Short TrackThe main event was at night, unfortunately we had to push the gain between 6 & 9 to maintain atleast a 1/60 shutter… so the problem was more motion blur or more gain? In the end the footage looks great, but the stills are not optimal. We brought up the coring level to it’s highest point, reduced detail level and boosted chroma, with cinelike D. This helped to reduce the noticability of the gain and help to make the colors pop. Unfortunately, the HVX seems to have the same problems with reds that the DVX has, a little blockiness… other than that the footage is beautiful and very super 16mm ish.

I have set up 4 – 400 GB drives into 2 SoftRAID RAID 1 sets so we have 2 400 GB drives that will provide mirror backups.
we don’t have enough space to use your technique and would want to look at footage on set and immediately that night. If we go the direct to FCP import from P2, than proof the clips, check lip sync – scrub each clip and check numbers to take list, do you think this would be ok… I have already done this technique with 5 hours of footage between P2 and P2 store and had no issue, just would like to hear your thoughts…

Interesting info… I don’t know anyone who has a Christie Projector… and in LA rental would be costly… it’s a low budget film and the budget is near it’s end, that’s why I’m trying to find an acceptable solution that will be useful to me in the future… what JVC did you use?
thank you,
