I know all about alpha channels – I know to set it to Quicktime + Alpha – I know which file formats can handle alpha channels – I teach FCP, Photoshop, and 3dsMax classes – and if i didn’t know all about these things, I wouldn’t be able to use numerous other programs for 5 years and never have a problem – which is what i said in my post – so if you’d read my post and acutally think about it, you wouldn’t post stupid crap like “set it to Quicktime + Alpha” – all the settings are correct – the piece of crap doesn’t work. And if you knew what you were talking about you also wouldn’t post “it works on my computer”. I have no doubt that it works on your computer, my point is that it doesn’t work on mine. you’re a moron if you think that the fact it works on yours proves that it works on mine. buggy software doesn’t always produce errors that are replicatable on other computers, buggy software produces random errors that occur at random and for no good reason. Now excuse me, I have to go figure out why Motion doesn’t update my Photoshop files, and Reconnect media isn’t easy to find (ie option click on file, or in Menus).

  • OK – your cool point shave been restored – thanks for the info

  • i’m completely screwed. i really don’t understand why that scenario was never tested. i’ve been working on my film for two years and now i don’t see how i’m going to finish it. blackmagic just lost a lot of cool points and at least one return customer.

  • Ok. I’ve calmed down a bit. I still think Apple is shady in its marketing and there seems to be a lot of incompatibility between different versions of the own software, there’s also lots of bugs in all their stuff – but thanks for the suggestions. It looks like I’ll first delete the program folders for FCP, Motion, DVD Studio Pro, etc.. then re-install them, along with the latest Mac Pro App program. If that doesn’t work then apparently I need to back up my scripts and desktop stuff to a DVD, then use the disk utility to wipe my HD and re-install everything. fun. hopefully it works, we’ll see.
    Thanks – Chris

the playing from a CD isn’t going to work if you have people talking, there’s no way you’ll hit the play on the boombox and projector at the EXACT same time, and for people talking it would have to be EXACT. if it’s just music then it’ll be OK but still could be a little off if you have changes at precise times, but for your purposes it should be OK.

If I knew I couldn’t upgrade my Production Suite, I wouldn’t have bought it. Any college student who buys software from Apple is just trying to be honest, but if Apple is going to change the rules and make us buy entirely new products every time they come out wiith an upgrade, then these honest students will likely join the rest of their colleagues and just get a copy from a friend.
