This is the clip posted on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fx7Vrcol1k&feature=youtu.be
I’m trying to remove all the cars except for the old black Buick turning the corner.
You can also see a biker comes in behind the Buick – he needs to be removed also.
The jpegs: I’m able to do what I want in Photoshop on one frame. I just am not sure how to do it for a full clip with After effects. Some contents or functionalities here are not available due to your cookie preferences! This happens because the functionality/content marked as “Google Youtube” uses cookies that you choosed to keep disabled. November 30, 2012 at 5:30 pm in reply to: Looking for tutorial information for a specific taskHi, thanks for the reply.
We did shoot long takes so that we have a lot of clean background footage.
I’m trying to draw loose circles around the cars I want to take away then delete them (to reveal the clean background). I sort of figured out how to do that last night by trail and error – but I can’t find any tutorials on how to do it – I’m not sure what doing that is called.
I tried the roto tool but the hero’s car doesn’t stand out from the background that well. So I tried to use the pen tool but that really doesn’t work very well.
In Photoshop I would use the lasso tool but the closest thing I can find in After Effects is the pen tool but as I said setting points doesn’t seem to work very well when you are trying to draw the contours of a complicated shape. Does After Effects have something like the lasso tool?
Thanks!

It’s been a while now since I dealt with my problem and I don’t remember all the ins and outs.
I do remember in the end I gave up on the Areca and bought an ATTO R680. The ATTO is much more user friendly if you are not experienced setting a RAID up (as I was not). Also the tech support from ATTO is a million times better than Areca. (I never could do much troubleshooting with the Areca because I could not afford to pay someone else to install it for me – which seemed to be the only option for my level of expertise)
So I never did figure out what the answer to this post was (because I returned the Areca).
In the end I did have a problem with my hard drives (which might have been the main problem with the Areca also) The drives simply didn’t work with the equipment I had which gave me all kinds of headaches. It’s possible that could be causing your problem too. In the end I bought Hitachi Ultra Drives. The ones I had originally were supposed to be fine… but they were not. Luckily Newegg accepted the return for those drives. Thank you Newegg!!
Since May my setup has been working. As I said, I use the ATTO R680 and an 8 drive ProAvio enclosure, with Hitachi Ultrastar drives.
Hope this helps a little

Thank you.
If it happens again I will remember to try that.
The little box returned to the video track, but then the 2 boxes disappeared from the audio tracks… a bit later I looked and they were all back.
Strange one.
Thanks for the reply and as I said I will try what you suggested if it happens again.

This happens to me sometimes too. But I have to restart my computer to fix it. It drives me crazy.
I have an early 2009 MacPro with 8 cores. My RAM is a bit low though. Only 8 gigs.
I’m running Snow Leopard.
I hope someone knows the answer.

Awesome!
Thanks David for all the advice. I did appear to throw some stuff out of sync. Thanks for the heads up!
The TTTT is my new favorite tool and I’m editing along happily again 🙂

Hi Anna, thanks for the reply.
You know… it took a while but I figured out what happened. After I transferred the content files from the camera to the drive; I did what I had never done before… I turned off the camera without ejecting the camera. I realized what I had done after I did it, but thought there wasn’t anything I could do about it at that point.
I then tried to Log&Trans from the folders on the Drive – that is when I started to see the problems and started this thread.
After a while I started to see all kinds of problems on my Mac…. I was afraid I had a much bigger problem than I thought I originally had.
Then I remembered not ejecting the drive. So I connected the camera again and ejected the drive… ALL THE PROBLEMS WENT AWAY!
The point of the story is ALWAYS EJECT BEFORE UNPLUGGING!!! 🙂

Thanks for all of the outside of the box ideas 🙂
It doesn’t seem that my 2nd monitor has the ability to desaturate. But my grading monitor might – I just have to switch the cables from the Decklink card to the Mac.
That would be the easiest.
Otherwise I’ll see how the other ideas work!
Thanks!

August 11, 2012 at 10:10 pm in reply to: Does turning Frame Controls “ON” in compressor force de interlacing?Ah, I see. I didn’t realize those two options work together.
You would think that the deinterlace option would gray out when you set output fields to “same as source”. But I know now so that works too.
Thanks for the help!
