Does turning Frame Controls “ON” in compressor force de interlacing?
In a tutorial I’m watching it warns not to accidentally deinterlace footage that is progressive because it will lower the resolution of it.
From what I have just learned about deinterlacing I can see how that would be possible.
I’m have been transcoding from footage that started out progressive, but I am doing a speed change so I have turned frame controls on, which has turned the grayed out “deinterlacing” option to black.
The selection now reads: Fast (Line averaging)
I would like to think that my footage is not being deinterlaced…. but I’m not sure since the deinterlaced option is now “turned on” and there is no “Same as Source” option.
Is my footage being deinterlaced after I hit Submit?

Frame controls itself does not force it.
If your source is progressive and compressor lists it as progressive on the a/v atrributes, simply change the output fields in the frame controls tab to “same as source”.

Ah, I see. I didn’t realize those two options work together.
You would think that the deinterlace option would gray out when you set output fields to “same as source”. But I know now so that works too.

With “Same as source”, there is not field order management.
What you put IN (Upper, lower or Progressive), you get OUT.
