Is there a way to temporally convert the timeline to B&W?

I don’t want to convert all the clips to B&W. Just the timeline. I’m editing an action sequence and I find cutting between non graded clips distracting (I end up wasting time doing a temp grade in FCP)

I thought it might be interesting to try to just edit the scene without color.

    Thanks!

What about throwing a de-saturate filter on all the clips, then removing them when done?

Grade filters only work at the clip level. How are you monitoring? If on an external monitor then just drop the color on the monitor. Just remember the setting to return it later.

You could also drop the color on the computer monitor but that might be a nuisance for other things in the software

It wouldn’t be true B&W anyhow, only desaturated color. But if I wanted to do this I’d use the 3 way color corrector on the first clip, copy-pate settings>filters to the rest. Easy to remove the same way. I think Nattress also plug-in for it. Also Magic Bullet looks.

    Yeap.
I think that using a filter, the 3W-CC would be the best option because his RT performance.
Putting down the monitor’s chroma would be easier.

Thanks for all of the outside of the box ideas 🙂

It doesn’t seem that my 2nd monitor has the ability to desaturate. But my grading monitor might – I just have to switch the cables from the Decklink card to the Mac.

    That would be the easiest.

Otherwise I’ll see how the other ideas work!

    Thanks!
