September 19, 2021 at 1:36 pm in reply to: Does Resolve still use the Dongle for the full version?I took a closer look at the downloads and now see they sell a “Studio” version for $295. The unused Dongle I have is in a DVD case with DVD that says “DaVinci Resolve” Mac OS X. It does have a serial number on it. Before I stick that serial number in I thought I’d ask here. Do new purchases of Resolve no longer have dongles? I liked the Dongle so I could transfer it to different workstations. Can you still do that with the license download?
The Studio Version seems to want a serial number before I can download it.
Does Blackmagic have a way you can look up my licensing information? I’m curious if I ever licensed my other Dongle (or if they ever required that before, I can’t remember).
Does Blackmagic have customer/tech support now? I remember when I bought my first version of Resolve that at that time when you called BMD you always got to talk to the same guy, I forgot his name. Then they came out with the BMCC and gave away a free version and Dongle for Resolve and with that Resolve had a huge number of new users of Resolve so that when you called BM they were overwhelmed and told you, “If you have any questions about Resolve direct them now to Creative Cow”
I’m not sure what their situation is now… I’m kind of playing catch up.

I ended up going with this one:
It’s a starter to get get back into editing and grading. It’s doesn’t have HDR10 support but overall I like it so far.

Okay, now I’m looking at this one:
LG 27UK850-W 27″ 4K UHD IPS Monitor with HDR10 with USB Type-C Connectivity
EDIT: Although after looking for a place to buy it I think this may be an older model. Amazon has it for sale from Rocket Computers, which I have never heard of. And Walmart has it for 4 different prices (I don’t get that) that are all in the 800$ range. Which is a bit out of budget. I need to call LG I think.

After looking at these for a while it seems that the choice seems to be between the LG and the Dell. They both seem pretty good for the price. I’m down to trying to figure if either or both are able to be calibrated at home. I forgot to mention I’m looking for 27″ too.
The LGs model number is LG UN860W

“Stuff is cheap now AND super fast.” — always good to hear, thanks 🙂
A question: If you are using thunderbolt, are you running on a MacPro now? The last time I looked into it (which was a long time ago) there was no way to run thunderbolt on MacPros. Is there a solution for that now or are you running on something else?
I may not upgrade to the new MacPro for 4-6 month so I’m not sure if I could use a thunderbolt enclosure now, or if maybe I should wait till I get the new MacPro next year.

It seems my definition of rotoscoping might have been too limited rotoscoping is what I need to do.
That website looks good and some of the videos tutorial in the link look like they will be very helpful.
Thanks again!
