How do we go about updating the firmware. Can we do it ourselves or does it have to be sent to Sony?

We are having the same issue with 2 ex3’s. We have come to the conclusion that it does not have anything to do with jamming sync or batt changes. Could it be an issue with spanned clips. here is a link to the sony transfer plug in window in FCP 6.05.

The clip in reference in the image is clip 279 at the top of the window and again at the bottom.

We have also ruled out an FCP issue for this is the same way it appears in the raw bpav folders.

March 17, 2009 at 2:14 pm in reply to: Export Issues

I have had the same issue. I am running an intel Imac and MBP intel. Both running FCS 6.05 and QT 7.6

I have tried a couple diff things.

1- Export qt ref from FCP of original source media(not the timeline). = 20 min export took 4min(long in my book) large file size.
2-Exported same source footage to qt ref inside QT player= 20 min export = 1sec very small file size

It does not seem to be a rendering issue. Merely a Final Cut issue all together. Should not need to render original source footage.

If my memory serves me correctly I remember this changing when I upgraded to FCS 2.

Any help on this would save a lot of people a great deal of time and money.

I used a display that only accepts VGA. I used DVI-VGA adapter. Something about the VGA signal sends information back to computer, I think. I am not a computer wiz so this info could be explained better by someone else. Also try searching known issues with your video card. Here is my vidoe display info.

    Chipset Model: GeForce 8600M GT
    Type: Display
    Bus: PCIe
    PCIe Lane Width: x16
    VRAM (Total): 128 MB
    Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de)
    Device ID: 0x0407
    Revision ID: 0x00a1
    ROM Revision: 3175

Open FCP without external display connected. While FCP is open plug your external display in. Quit and relaunch FCP. If you have any display that connects via VGA, use it. It is possible that the vga signal wakes FCP to seeing these external displays. I think the other aspect that gets it to work is having FCP open while making these display connections.

Sorry I was wrong about that. Raw and preview displays 720×420. That is the resolution of Standard Def video. If i was HD footage raw and preview would display whatever the resolution of your sequence or source footage is.

I had been having the same problem. The only view option was Digital cinema preview main or none. The machine in reference is a MBP 15″ 2.2ghz. This has been the way its been ever since I had purchased the machine. Then today just for the hell of it I tried plugging in a samsung LCD diplay and the options were there for all digital cinema desktop options. Main, raw, preview. Needless to say but AWESOME. At this point I hooked it up to my 42″ panasonic plasma(display I had originally used with MBP) and that now worked as well. Very strange but it seems to have something to do with the external display not telling your dvi port that it was here for use. It seems as though the samsung has woken the dvi port as well as FCP recognizes it’s connection. Even now when there is no external display plugged in to MBP, FCP still has the option to select Digital Cinema desktop-preview although greyed out because it is not plugged in. Sorry for the rant but I know others have had the same issue.

After thinking about the display fix that woke the dvi port. I also remembered that the samsung was a vga display. If anyone remembers when laptops and projectors were first used, you had to plug the vga cable into the laptop 1st before powering on. If you didn’t your computer didn’t realize that anything was plugged in. And wouldn’t send a signal to the projector.Just a side thought.

Raw and preview are the closest to a 4:3 aspect ratio. I would suggest using either raw or preview. Main is blown up to fit on whatever size display you have. Not the best quality.

Once the view option you want is selected, then press command(apple)f12. This should tell FCP to send out to external display.
