Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Export Issues

I work in as an editor for a Media company, as well as run a film production company. Recently, all of my Exports have been taking an insane amount of time. A few months ago, an export for a project under ten minutes wouldn’t take very long at all, but now it is taking over an hour.

My job for the media editor has had the same issues, and with our deadlines it is not possible to wait this long. I used to export in the Quicktime Conversion when things were going rather fast. Doing an export this way now takes up to two hours, so I have gone straight to the Export Quicktime movie. At first this would go rather fast, with the process being Export Quicktime, non self contained, and then re-exporting this in Quicktime itself which was an extremely fast process.
Now, the non self contained export is taking up to an hour. The project I just exported as a non self contained movie (which is merely a reference file), has a file size of over 2 gigs. The runtime on the video was 4 minutes. This should not be happening, and the reference file should in now way be this large for being a reference only.

What changed in the last couple of months? Is it FCP? Is it Quicktime? Both?
I just want to go back to my under ten minute exports like it was back in November and earlier.

Any help would be much appreciated!

First you’d have to tell us what your sequence settings and export settings are before we could help you out very much.

However, most such inquiries end up being the result of a major change in workflow; your acquisition format changed, your output format changed, your settings have changed but you didn’t know it?

I have had the same issue. I am running an intel Imac and MBP intel. Both running FCS 6.05 and QT 7.6

I have tried a couple diff things.

1- Export qt ref from FCP of original source media(not the timeline). = 20 min export took 4min(long in my book) large file size.
2-Exported same source footage to qt ref inside QT player= 20 min export = 1sec very small file size

It does not seem to be a rendering issue. Merely a Final Cut issue all together. Should not need to render original source footage.

If my memory serves me correctly I remember this changing when I upgraded to FCS 2.

Any help on this would save a lot of people a great deal of time and money.
