Yes. Try running Premiere with the “Mercury playback in software only” option enabled. Also, does your problem happen with AE or just Premiere?

Actually, the ability to install your membership across platform (OS X and Win) is completely new. Also, if I understand correctly, the ability to switch the activated license from computer to computer is much easier. Both of these options have been available from Avid for sometime and, from my POV, are a very welcome addition to CS.

I did it. For one thing, you have a while to cancel it. I also liked some the additional perks so I said what the hey.

A trim tool that requires me to manually delete clips to clear space before using it doesn’t sound very useful to me.
“I agree, but when you are mostly mouse driving, that particular move is fairly swift. The sweet spot for trimming in Legacy was/is quite different than in MC. For me, trimming in Legacy was at its best when using a mouse or trackpad. That, I think, is where the disconnect is.

Because you happen to be trimming at the moment, using the keyboard, and it is the fastest way to do it, especially if you are trimming with JKL. Your particular process doesn’t work that way, so you’ve never noticed a reason for it. When I’m cutting on Avid, I probably end up trimming a clip out at least several times a week.
Here’s an example: I’m trimming an insert shot and it isn’t feeling quite right. I’m dynamic trimming the out point, and I wonder do I really need this insert. I hold the J key a beat or two longer and the shot is gone. Yes, I could have deleted the clip, but in that particular instance it was faster and less jarring to my process not to. I don’t have to take my hands off where they are on the keyboard, I’m still in trim mode, etc.

I agree. Or at least I agree that it is a useful option. I don’t know why Brett perceives it as a “feature” instead of simply part of the trimming rules. Or why he thinks its limited to Premiere.

Pr has the same escape hatches that FCP did: EDL, AAF, and XML output.
“Yes. Actually, the file formats have never been more open and more well-documented than they are now. Moving back and forth between MC and Pr or Pr and FCP 7 is stable and easy, especially if you use matching transitions and filters, like Avid FX and Boris Red. A decade ago, the ONLY real option was creating multiple passes on tape and ADAT, and an EDL.
Frankly, the degree interoperability between rival platforms is actually stunning. Yes, you might have to double check your speed changes, and a transition or two might need to be reset, but really, the seamlessness between NLEs has never been as tight. And with Pr now taking in DNx, I doubt it can get much tighter.
