Speed Razor! There’s something you don’t hear much about anymore. I spent something like three-four years on that, a decade ago. Amazing back then. Had to help somebody out with it about three years back, and I was freaked by how kludgy and cumbersome it was to use. Of course it was on some ancient dual pentium, but wow–times had changed. That’s what makes me laugh about the “FCP X is in its infancy just like FCP was a decade ago, so give it time to grow and it will be just as multifaceted as FCP is now, but with God-like power.” Its like somehow a decade of NLE development doesn’t matter, and because it is new its okay for it to not include features that even Speed Razor had.

Your timing was fine. Don’t trim it by a frame.
Juan, this is not what you are making it. Cow has EVERY right to take those images down. Beyond that, I’m pretty certain they have an obligation to take them down. I applaud your enthusiasm for free and open speech, but I would recommend coming to a better understanding of what that actually means. There are a few nuances to the practice that seem to elude you.
Oh. And I did enjoy looking at them while they were still there, though there really didn’t seem to be much beyond what has already been announced. I mean, it wasn’t a shocker or anything.

I just want to add two things to all the good advice here:
1) It doesn’t hurt to join a professional organization like SMPTE, where you get access to tons of technical papers that are generally not available. While there is little there specifically about Avid, you have instant access to a lot of information about CODEC variants, transmission and routing issues, causes of defects and noise issues, etc. You may not be the person who has to troubleshoot this issues, but if you are at or near the finishing end, it never hurts to have an understanding of what is going on.
2) A class or book or two about basic Network structure. Though again, not directly related to the NLE, I’ve found having a fundamental sense of how networks function to be very useful.

I’m sure there are other justifications in the agreement, but if you would like to see immediately where your argument is DOA look no further than the section “Copyrights and Ownership.” No further justification is needed, in my layman’s opinion.
Juan, I never want to quash exuberance over the notion of free speech, but don’t you think your accusations are a little over the top? A bit of crying wolf, as it were? If you DO think this is truly important, I think Shane’s suggestion is the best–that you host those images on your own website and battle it out with Avid–if they are so inclined–rather than attempting to force the Cow to play unwilling middleman.
I DO have to tell you–I’d probably come to your site and look.

I was actually complementing you for pointing out what should be obvious to the rest of us but often gets lost in the conversation. Until that day comes I’ll work in Avid and FCP 7.
