FWIW, I don’t place my monitors side by side. I place then with enough space between then that I can see the larger playback monitor that I have about three feet back. This way I’m always changing my focal length, which relieves a lot of eye strain.

I have a 27 Dell and a 27 ASUS; both WQHDs are terrific. The Dell U2713H is the same price as the Apple, but has better color performance and a matte screen, which I hands-down prefer. It does not have pass-through TBolt, but does have a USB3 port, and acts as a nice docking station for me. The ASUS is a couple of hundred dollars cheeper and doesn’t have as many frills, but is a solid monitor with good picture. I enjoy working on both.

FWIW–I went with a new Macbook Pro this time around because it seems that I will be doing a lot more writing/producing this year and I want the extra mobility. That said, I’m still doing broadcast/studio editorial on it a couple of days a week. It seems much faster than my 8 Core and plugs into two very effective TBolt docking stations I’ve put together with 2560 Monitors. It does all my Avid work at full res without blinking and Pr just seems to love it. I wouldn’t worry too much about using them for editorial if push comes to shove.
Maybe if you are all about 4K that’s something else. Right now, that’s not an issue for me even a little.

I take it you’ve never met or corresponded with Marianne Montague. If you had, your take on Avid customer service would probably be quite different. Very specifically because of her, I rate Avid’s customer service pretty high these days. And I think you’ll find a lot of other Avid editors who will back me up on that.
