[David Lawrence] “I’m actually quite partial to the cross zoom effect. It’s useful!
    “

Actually, me too. That thing can be a nice little problem solver when it wants to be.

[Greg Andonian] “Someone in the Premiere Pro forum recommended these transitions a while back and I thought they were pretty good, especially “impact flash”. And they’re free, which is really cool. “

    Well, thank you, sir.

[Oliver Peters] “You mean the junk like cube spin in FCP “legacy” ? 😉 “

Hey, man. I find a decent use for that inside cube spin once every year or two.

[Oliver Peters] “[Chris Harlan] “Plugins are the big hole right now. David’s right about that. But, Continuum will start to fix that.”

Quite a lot of the current AE filters work just fine, including BCC8, most of the RGS/MB filters, DFT’s products, Sapphire and Sapphire Edge. Install them for AE and the ones that work in PPro as well will show up in PPro’s effects folders.

Sorry. I was way too vague and off target. I had a tooth pulled several hours ago, and I’m a bit hopped up. The plugin market is fine. BCC8 is probably where I am going first. What I was actually babbling about was the lack of included transitions. Just spoiled by the bevy that comes with FCP.

[Michael Hancock] “Is Randall the Honey Badger going to be Premiere’s Bruce the Yak, then?
    “

Oh, I think so. It’ll chase cobras onto the screen and swear a lot, and bazitch about how it does all the work and the jackals just follow it around and pick up the pieces. Then it will pass out on your screen, and if you don’t jiggle he cursor for the five minutes its asleep, it’ll get up and drag one of your clips off with it.

Epic. I really do think Randall the Honey Badger needs to be the official Pr. animal.

Last night, I XMLed one of my approved spots into Pr6. It came across beautifully–just had to replace some transitions and a futz a tiny bit with the audio. It also gave me a full and accurate list of where the XML didn’t match up. This was ProResHQ 1080@25. Playback was terrific. So far, the tools are quite intuitive. I like the mixer. I like the clip audio. I’m feeling happy. Plugins are the big hole right now. David’s right about that. But, Continuum will start to fix that.

[Oliver Peters] “PS: I don’t count Smoke as a good all-in-one tool, because you really wouldn’t start the offline edit of a big job in it. It’s a finishing tool best paired with something else. In that sense, DS would better fit your definition.
    “

I haven’t seen the new tools yet, but that’s sort of how I’m expecting it to be: a fast, rough cut in Media Composer, and then polish and pizazz in Smoke.

[Bobby Cullipher] “Do you Macbook Pro users find that you need the same configuration for smooth editing? At this point, it’s all about price… and price is now dictating which editing software we use… not a good day.
    “

    Hey Bobby!

I have the newest 17″ Macbook Pro with the faster processor and 8 gigs. When I’m using it, my media usually resides on either an eSATA 2 platter RAID or a 2 TB Little Big Disk, all connected through thunderbolt. No SSDs. My source materials are mainly ProResHQ 1080, 23.98, 25, 60i. I find editing in FCS and Avid VERY smooth, and in many ways comparable or slightly better than my 2008 8 core. Where the 8 core still clearly wins, are big renders. I’ve played some with Premiere, and it seems okay too, though I’ve not used it enough to say definitively.

[Jim Giberti] “I can honestly say I was delighted at how fast I was able to output several adaptations of a campaign yesterday. “

Cool, man. X is still theoretically on my Summer list, buts its moved a notch or two down. I’m still interested, though.
