  • huh. well I have no explanation for this. I guess I better see if we got a bad Titan black card possibly (will test it on a windows machine)

  • yep using the web driver listed above, go figure. You’re Titan Black isn’t flashed is it? (its just the stock PC card right?)

  • I’ve found that cuda performance with temporal noise reduction specifically is still significantly better than openCL (at least with R9 x280 6gb cards). I haven’t successfully gotten a titan black to work in mavericks however, but that could be my own fault as I know a few others who have. Not sure if Resolve 11 will fix openCL to be on par with cuda for noise reduction purposes at least… my guess is they will since that seems to be the future for single system users.

  • very odd. Did all as you outlined again (actually wiped the hard drive and did fresh install of the OS as well) and still no recognition of the titan black by either the OS or Resolve. Hmmm, has anyone else got the titan black working on mac? Could it be a cubix thing (ie the titan black needs to actually be in the tower using a seperate power supply)?

  • David, would you be able to confirm that you got this configuration working with the titan black in the cubix? We just tried it on our Mac Pro mid-2012 with cubix xpander and could not get the OS to see the titan black no matter what we did. Same cuda version, same nvidia web driver, mavericks 10.9.2, and resolve 10.1.5 (maybe resolve 10.1.4 would work?). Any comments or thoughts on this?

Can anyone comment on the order of operations used now for R3D debayer if both are used at the same time w/each other. For example if I were to use a Red Rocket and Two Titans in a cubix and enabled both for R3D debayer, would they work in tandem or would the rocket override the two titans? Anyone tried this? (I’m thinking I’ve got a red rocket that’s pretty much useless now…alas the day was coming I suppose)

  • I noticed those improvements, but my cache still renders incorrect black levels when you play through a clip to cache it (instead of waiting for the render to happen in the background?). Anyone else still having that issue?

well said, +1 here for FIXING the cache. I’ve never been able to see it work without lifting the black levels… EVER…

  • This was my office for a year and a half before I moved into a theater full time. The desk is sit/stand which was wonderful (and my back never felt better for that time), but notice how it had to be behind the client couch. Only negative there was the clients could see noise detail better than I could on the 55″ plasma… but all in all the solution worked well for me. There are no windows and the lights are dimmed way up in the picture obviously (and for those of you who like to complain yes the wall is 18% gray and yes there was a light behind the plasma balanced for reference white, its just not on… blah blah blah). I don’t think you can have your cake and eat it too with daylight, you’ll generally end up grading way too bright and without enough contrast if your display is set for 35 foot Lamberts… try it sometime, I have many times, never works right when viewed afterwards in a different environment (especially on dark content).

I think its the cave or bust for us colorists, alas. Just remember to take a walk outside every 2 hours or so during a heavy grading session (most say you should do it every hour, but good look with that with nervous clients). Helps reset the old eyes as well : )
