Thanks for that idea–it is definitely in “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” format.

I’ve checked the clip settings pane before, but all I find there are controls to turn off audio capture (so that only the video is captured and the resulting .mov files are silent). I don’t have a muting control there in the clip setting pane of the log and capture window so that I can still capture the audio with the video but silence the playback. Maybe it’s just not possible to do that.

hitting “f” did the trick. I knew I’d tapped some shortcut on the keyboard–thanks for helping me find my way out.

Thank you for the help, Rafael. I tried this approach, but the video still requires rendering when I drop it into my FCP timeline. Perhaps I have not calibrated the timeline settings correctly to receive it, but I’ll keep fiddling with things and see if I can work it out.

Thanks Shane and Rafael,
I was afraid that would be the problem, Shane (dated FCP). I suppose Streamclip is piggybacking off of FCP’s supported codecs, and that’s why ProRes does not appear in there either. Oh well, maybe it’s time to pony up and get new FCP software.

Thanks for the insights. Camcorder was in record mode, no other programs running, and it’s an XLR input. You might be onto something with the alternate firewire ports, though. I’m running my external drive on another input, and I’ve had trouble with that getting crossed up before. I’ll try fiddling with that now. Thanks again,
