Thanks everybody for your comments and I didn’t mean to start an argument :). I believe my short and simple answer is 655 x 480 for NTSC and if I want to zoom in on it, I need to double the values.

    Thanks again!

I realize that, and Creative Cow is usually one of those helpful places. I’ll continue to look around. Thanks.

sorry – not really following the question. do you have a copy of dreamweaver and you don’t know how to use it, or are you asking where to get it?

Basically yes, I have a copy and don’t know how to use it. I was hoping for a start to simply update my website. For example if I was helping someone in Vegas. I would say first, you have to save a new project. Then you would import you media (and explain). Then you place your media on the timeline, etc.

I have Flash 8. I tried importing a video in Flash, but it went through a wizard to set up a player for the internet.

Is there a way I can convert an mpg2 or .mov to FLV or mpeg4 in Flash?

Thanks guys for all your help. I rerendered my 7GB file and it only took about 4 hours….so far things are going good. I’m about to reset some of my chapter markers and tweak the menus. Hopefully it’ll burn okay.

On ebay you can get a quadcore for about $600.
I bought the computer I use now about 3 years ago off ebay for $250! It already had Vegas installed and some other software. I just bought a JVC DV500 for just a little over $1,000 (new cost about $5,000) off ebay. Ebay has been my life saver 🙂 (along with creative cow).

    Thanks guys!

John, your response was extremely helpful. I’m in the process of rendering the 7GB file (Feel very very dumb about 77 minute thing — what was I thinking….).

    Getting a new QuadCore PC
Do I have to actually buy a new PC or can I buy a new processor? Not exactly sure what it is though. Does it connect straight into the mother board or can it go in a slot? Or is it the whole nuts and bolts of the machine and I need to buy a new one?

Unless your project had a LOT of FX, my suspicion is

The total project time is 2 hrs. 17 min. In addition to normal color correction and saturation boost, I used Sony Light Rays. Every time I use this effect (commercials, plays, etc.), it makes for an extremely long render, but never this long. The longest time I’ve had to wait is probably 2 days. I just started using this effect about a month or two ago because it gives the video a nice soft, glowy look.

Were you using a Pentium 200?
I should know the answer to this and what is good and not good, but I’m lacking in that area. Right now I know what I need to do to get things done and I do it. Everything else, I have to pick up along the way.

Under system properties it says the following:
    Computer:
    Intel(R)
    Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
2.40 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

I see what it says, but I’m not sure if I completely understand it all. I see that I have a Pentium 4 and 512 MB of Ram (not sure what the 2.40Ghz means). — Is this good?

Another good reason for using a bitrate calculator
This is something else that I’m learning along the way…I used a bitrate calculator for 77 minutes and it told me 6532kbps. I then converted that to 6 688 768 bps. I put this figure in the Average and left 8,000,000 for Max and 192,000 for min.

I saw where you used a calculator for someone else…Could you put these figures in your calculator and let me know what you come up with?

Did they use Vegas or was it some other app?
They used something else. Some kind of compressor program.

    Thanks for your feedback.

March 9, 2009 at 9:02 pm in reply to: TV News and Vegas Pro

    Hi Bill,

I used to shoot and edit commercials and news at our local tv station here, but have sinced moved on with my own production company.

I still have the opportunity from time to time to shoot some news and have edited using Vegas. But in all actuality, it doesn’t matter if someone shoots news, weddings, or commercials…the workflow is still basically the same. With news, you can use just simple cuts or you can jazz it up with dissolves and wipes. You can even take it a step further and highlight specific portions of text in a newspaper clipping or magazine article (like on Dateline, etc.).

Sony Vegas can handle anything that you need it to. Just remember the basics as with any editor. (Capture footage to different hard drive than oporating drive, make sure you have adequate disc space, etc.)

  • I’ve tried rendering with the following suggestion

You need to lower the bitrate to about 4.5KBps to get 2hrs on a DVD. Use the Custom button on the Render window and on the Video tab make your average (bps) 4,500,000 (it defaults to 6,000,000 which is too high for 2hrs)

and the total file size came to around 5GB. I used a bit rate calculator and now I’m re-rendering at 3728 kbps with a 2-pass.

Simon — I’m curious on how you were able to fit a 2hr 50min video on a DVD. How was the quality?

  • Thanks guys…

I’m rendering right now so I can’t look at the options, but if I remember correctly there was an option to render to 3 different bitrates and then an option to render with one bitrate.

Which option is the best? Since John only mentioned changing one bitrate, I assumed that he was talking about the option with one bitrate and that’s what I’m trying now.

    What’s the standard?

    Chris

  • Hey Mike,
I didn’t mean to sound synical or anything with my comment, because this is a fantastic forum and you guys have helped me out tremendously in the past, but in response to….

There were responses from 3 of us with different suggestions, none of which you followed up on.

There were three responses…one was for my original post and two were pertaining to the way I rendered audio.

I didn’t reply immediately to the first comment because I felt it may be more of a memory issue, so I bought a new external hard drive and mentioned that later. I did however respond to the other two posts.

But with all of that aside…..

I’m going to try to follow John’s suggestion in lowering the bitrate. How did you come to the conclusion to lower the bitrate to KBps? Is there a previous post on understanding bitrates more?

As for the dual layer discs…that is definately an option, but I think I’m going to try adjusting the bitrates first. I have heard the same thing about some players not playing dual layer discs correctly so, so far, I haven’t tried them.

Thanks for the comments. I’ll let you know how it turns out. If anyone else has any suggestions, they are still more than welcome.
