This is the weirdest thing. I’d honestly recommend reinstalling. I think it’s a bug. I can’t think of anything else that might effect your text in that way and if changing none of those things solved your problem, then I’m pretty sure nothing else will. The strangest thing is that there’s no evidence of other people having this problem, which kinda suggests it’s a bug actually, if it was something simple, somebody else who is new would have had the same problem and asked like you did but got an answer. Since that obviously didn’t happen, I think it’s a bug. When you uninstall, delete all your After Effects related folders that might contain settings, clear your settings in Adobe Cloud as well in case it syncs from there. Then reinstall. If that doesn’t solve your problem, you’ll have to contact Adobe Support.

I’m not exactly sure what you’re asking. It sounds like you could use a pre-comp, but then you use the term sub-comp and I don’t understand what your describing? You want to feed a comp into itself?

If you’re making a template like this, I’d always recommend making the template with the longest possible text that will be there.
However, for this project, the solution really depends on how fast and what your animation is. If you want the animation to come in one letter at a time, then your range selector needs to be at least as many frames as there are letters otherwise multiple letters will come in at the same time. If you are using a bezier on the range selector, then you’ll need to extend it much longer or the fastest section will include multiple letters. If it’s already slow enough, then I’m not sure what could be causing your problem without some more information. If you could include some screenshots or demo of your animation, that would probably help a lot.

You want to have one logo come flying through all the others, pushing them out of the way as it flies through?
I’m afraid the only real option there is to animate them by hand. I don’t know your project or timing, but I might try to kinda hide the effect by having the new logo come flying through really fast and slam really big onto the screen (might increase your shutter angle to accentuate the effect of it flying in). I’d move a couple groups of logos outward in just the few frames it takes for the new logo to animate on to give the impression it’s flying through them and pushing them out of the way. Then since it now covers most of those that were moving, I’d just add a few new logos flying out from behind it. The speed they all move is really just up to the timing of the project and personal taste.

I think there’s a script on aescripts.com to spread things out randomly in 3d space to start, but I’d put them where I want them all manually so they fill my background fairly evenly and in a pleasing manor. I’d do this by going into top view and just moving them around randomly in z-space, then go back to camera view and arrange their position and scale individually so they look nice.
Then you could link them all to a null and move the null up and down together. Or you could precompose all of them and turn on collapse transformations. Or you could select them all, press ‘P’, turn on keyframes, move the keyframes forward and move them all up, thus creating that keyframe for all of them at once. If you want them to come in randomly, you could to to animation>keyframe assistant>sequence layers.

Man, that is the weiredest problem. I tried to duplicate your issue, but the only way I could do so was by shifting the baseline in the Character Panel. The only thing I can do is ask some questions, go through the steps I’d do to troubleshoot this. I googled it and got nothing, so that won’t help, I’m sure you did that anyway. First, of course, check your character panel and see it the baseline shift has been changed. If you create a new project, does the problem occur there? In the new project, reset every value in the character panel, possibly change them to drastic values and see if that does anything. You can’t invert your mask because it isn’t closed, but inverting the mask shouldn’t do anything anyway. There is a setting under the text path called “Reverse Path” try changing that, see what it does, though I don’t think that’s your problem or your text would be backward. Change all the options there, see if that does anything, under “More Options”, make sure Grouping Alignment is set to 0.0%. Check your Paragraph panel, change settings there, see if it works. Try drastically different masks, make one going from left to right and right to left, use the rectangle tool. Do you have an adjustment layer on top making it do something. Is it 3d? Your other text has per-character 3d enabled, could that somehow be the culprit? Is something parented causing problems? Is your scale reversed? Double tap ‘L’ to see all the things that have been changed from their default settings, make sure nothing’s weird.
Wall of text, I know, and you’ve probably tried several of those things, but those are all the things I’d suggest looking at and checking. Sorry I can’t be of more help.

All those techniques are fairly basic for AE. I’d suggest just learning After Effects basics. The place I started is too old now (Video Copilot Basic Tutorials), just Google After Effects Basics Tutorials. There’s been several great suggestions here on the Creative Cow in other threads as well. Don’t try to use After Effects without learning the basics, it’s huge and it’s got a lot to it, it’s easy to get lost. Once you get how the basics work, it’s pretty easy to learn new techniques at that point. Sorry I don’t have more help. AE is all about using a bunch of little things to make something cool.

Don’t know why that’s happening, but if I were in your situation, I’d see if I can transcode the clips to something else.

Tis an odd glitch and I don’t think it should happen, but rendering high quality from AE is the general workflow most people work in anyway.
