  • Thanks. As was suspected,Self-Contained had been un-checked. Go figure. But I will try your suggestions if things go south again.

  • You know, the very self-same thought had occurred to me as I left work today. I will check tomorrow. It seems so far-fetched. However, as a fictional detective once said, “Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”

  • No, actually it happens to the same person sitting at the same station over a period of eight hours using the Current Settings position on the Quicktime option at the top of the Export drop-down menu. One file might end up exported as 400MB and the next will be 40MB. And they’re the same length and from the same source file.

Bingo! I’ve got a V1U. And a cable courtesy of my mic vendor. Guess I’ll take it back.

  • Everything works now. Thanks

  • …are the best. Five years without a crash so I never bothered to get these things down. Guess I was living on borrowed time. Oh well. Here goes.

  • … I’m thinking maybe I should just do a clean re-install. But having never done more than an archive and install (which only seems to have made matters worse) I am wondering where to find my IE 5.2 Favorites, Safari Favorites and Internet settings to backup for afterwards. Any ideas?

I have had the same problem with my Sony TRV-900 for years and use a low-pass filter set for 10 or 11 kHz. Just began recording audio with a separate solid-state recorder ($600) but understand a minidisc recorder ($300) does just as well.

  • I have and I will. Did I mention my mini-DV deck died right before I finished capturing all my footage so I finished with my camera? Apple Tech Support agrees that some of that media may be corrupt. Now that I have output my timeline in three segments (one crash at a time) for assembly on Beta I will now do as you suggested.

  • So there’s only a headphone jack on most low-end MD models? Too bad.
I’m using a Beachtek adapter and a Sony ECM-77B lav with my camera. The hiss is well-known to owners of the VX-1000, VX-2000, TRV-900, PD-150 etc. Bear in mind not all but many. I discovered too late that sometimes Sony actually fixes them if they’re still under warranty. I am using an older Mac G-4 for editing. Apparently only the G-5 has an optical-digital input which may be a moot point as Sony does not like Macs.
