HI Greg, I’m not sure if you ever found an answer to your problem. If not, try the following.
PREMIERE PRO>PREFERENCES> AUDIO HARDWARE – Choose your Microphone from the ADOBE DESKTOP AUDIO drop down.
WINDOW> AUDIO TRACK MIXER – Click on the “R” button that correspond to the track you want to record on. (The “R” button is next to the “M” and “S” buttons)
Click on the menu drop down button at the top right of the Audio Track Mixer panel. You should see “METER INPUTS ONLY”. Make sure that is checked off. You should be all set up at this point.
Now to record your VO, click the red circle at the bottom of the “Audio Track Mixer” panel and then hit the space bar to begin recording.
Good Luck Greg

HI Matt, Thanks for the reply. The new driver does in fact fix my SD playback issue. Many thanks to BM for that new driver !!!
From what I can tell though, 720 sequences still do not play out to the external monitor. 1080 sequences play out fine though. Very strange. 🙂
Again, Thanks for chiming in Matt

Kyle, just wondering… Is the lag issue all you are experiencing with your system?
I am running a 2010 Mac pro 12 Core with Lion 10.7.4, CS6 and the Decklink HD Extreme 3D Card. Playback on my external FSI monitor has been a problem since day one. On Playback, the video becomes squeezed and green glitchy video shows to the left and right of the video. This is all after I did a complete clean install of the OS (went from Snow lep to Lion) and installed all of the drivers associated with the BM card and Quadro 4000 card.
What’s really bizarre is that this issue is only displayed in SD sequences at the moment. 1080 sequences appear to playback fine while 720 sequences do not output at all. I have only run into one other poster on the PP forum that had the same issue as myself. At any point, did you experience anything like what I described above?
Thanks in advance for taking the time out to respond?

Hey Jeff, Thanks for the heads up. Finally someone who is seeing this issue. I was beginning to think other viewers of this post thought I was insane. Hopefully Blackmagic can get a fix out for this problem.
Thanks for taking the time to respond

Hi Chris,
I am running Lion 10.7.4 and Quicktime 10.1 at the moment. Just yesterday I did a clean upgrade to Lion from Snow Lep. Interestingly enough the move to Lion has given me motion playback on my external monitor (which I wasn’t getting with snow lep) but now I am getting glitchy video to the left and right of the SD image during playback. In addition, the frame is compressed in size which frees up the space (on the left and right) for this glitchy video to show. From my experiments… this issue is only present in SD sequences since 1080 sequences play back fine. For some reason though… 720 sequences don’t play back at all on the external. I was hoping possibly a driver update in the future might fix this but my concern is I don’t see others on here with this same problem.
Thanks for chiming in Chris.

HI Gerry, Thanks for trying to help.
To answer your question… Yes, under the playback tab within the Preferences I have “Blackmagic Playback” checked off. It doesn’t appear that Premiere is struggling to see the card, it’s definitely there. The program just doesn’t want to play (through the external monitor) SD sequences properly or 720 sequences at all 🙂
Again, thanks for taking the time out to chime in

I appreciate all of the replays guys. My situation has changed a bit though. I went ahead and did a clean install of the OS. I am now running 10.7.4 and I’m now experiencing a different issue with the external montioring. Before (with 10.6.8) I couldn’t even get motion video playback on the external monitor. A still frame was displayed when playing down sequences. Now (with 10.7.4) I get motion video playback on the external montior but the video is crushed which reveals black pillar box bars on the left and right of the screen. Within these pillar box bars I am seeing glitchy video throughout playback.
I was under the impression that the latest Blackmagic driver would allow the HD Extreme 3D card I have function properly with CS6. I now believe I was wrong.
What’s even more bizarre is that 1080 sequences run fine on the external monitor, SD sequences have this crushed/glitchy video look during external monitoring (which I mentioned above) and 720 sequences don’t show up on the external monitor at all. Not sue what is going on here? I guess the good news is that CS 5.5 ( which is still on my machine) is still operating normally. Any ideas guys what is happening here?
Thanks again for your help guys

Keith, I see exactly what you mean and why you would be concerned. Very few things in this industry are cheap and when someone tells you that you should consider changing platforms it’s only natural for you to question why. I agree with you that there definitely seems to be a shift away from Apple (at least in our industry) these days. Apple of course put that into motion with the new FCP. You add in the recent talk of the discontinuation of the Mac Pros and you have a group of loyal Apple pro users who start to question if they can trust Apple anymore. I think that’s why you are hearing so much about PC’s these days. I of course could be wrong 🙂

Hi Keith,
I have the 12 core 2.66 ghz with 24 gigs of RAM running CS5.5. As for the Hard drives… 4 internal drives, 1 for the applications and the other 3 are configured as a RAID 0. For the video card, I run the Quadro 4000.
I can’t say I’m unhappy with the Mac Pro or Premiere Pro at this point. The software runs quite well and besides some of the minor issues (some lag when switching between Premiere and other programs), I have little negative to say. I do think that looking back on my system purchase … If I would have known Apple was going to do with FCP what they did, I would have gone with a PC. I feel that I could have gotten a killer system for less money and had more options (like video cards for example) for upgrading. Again though, My machine and PP runs great.
Sorry for any confusion

I too have had a positive experience with ADK. I actually bought my Mac Pro (based around FCP) from them a year ago. Eric (who Tom D mentioned) is a super nice guy and extremely knowledgeable. I had him on the phone for hours (sometimes after hours) before I pulled the trigger on my system. Even a year later, he is always quick to answer my emails.
Funny story… I can remember talking to Eric at ADK (13 months ago)and him telling me I should consider going the PC/Adobe Premiere route instead of the Apple/FCP route. I recall him saying that the future of FCP looked a little shaky and that Adobe was doing big things with Premiere. Looking back….the man was right. I should have listened and gotten the PC 🙂
