Hi Rob
— should be able to set this up no problem — AE camera is fine for this—-
—- sounds like the z space setup in your comp may need setting up differently
— suggestions …
1 ) make sure the emitter is behind the camera in z space.
2 ) animate the camera in z space
3 ) sometimes AE is weird and occaisionaly it makes a difference which order the layers are in — if its not thee already try moving the particle layer below the camera layer…
4 ) some particles probably are being born just in front of camera – if this looks rubbish try redrawing the transparency over life curve to make them fade in more beautifully

— might be confusing as expect the point is centre of frame the wheel is on ( which is masked out )
— might be worth getting a closeup still of a single wheel which is then carefully positioned in the centre of the screen before making final adjustment to anchor point to make sure it rotates evenly – then scale track etc

— probably there is a key frame that is hard to see without zooming in on the timeline —- try zooming right in and you will probably see it hiding next to one of the others – half hidden behind it …

== also — dont forget to put your artists hat on — in some comps very small discrepancies in light and/or perspective give the game away ……….

Ae only renders frames between the markers on the timeline so if these markers are together you will only get one frame.
I would say Ae is pretty good one the whole and well worth learning though IMO some areas are not so good – most notably the motion controls ……..
………….. just my tuppence worth.

— obviously cc elements so that comp works — but sort key first then cc downstream —c—

Hi — my point originally is that it is best to get the rushes with maximum picture information ( grading loses information )
—- unless you have been asked to grade it would be inclined to ask the director how he wants to handle this —- match grain yes but grade along with FX work not so sure …… it depends…..
— last time I did anything like this the Fx was graded along with the rest of the edit at the finishing stage….
