Ah! This is the exact effect I am looking for! But the links are no longer active 🙁

Vincent? Are you still there? Any chance of uploading them again please?

Would be ever so grateful… C.

    Excellent! Thanks guys.

Now, another question. And the real reason for me posting…

Basically footage was accidently shot (not by myself, I’d like to point out!) in 1080i format instead of DV, and for this particular project, the outcome needs to be a DVD in standard definition, 16:9.

So what is the best way to compress the HD footage? Is it simply a case of scaling down the footage in premiere to fit the 720 x 576 monitor? Or maybe using additional compression software – I have a copy of WinAVI? or I did notice in the Z5 camera settings something about compressing whilst capturing?

It goes without saying that maintaining quality is of the upmost importance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers. C.

Strange….but it seems to be fine now. Created a new project and its showing as 3.83GB now. I must have missed something in the settings. Thanks for you response though.

How d’you mean? DVD Rom Content is unchecked. There is none.

By changing the project settings to 7Mbps and then 6Mbps, literally nothing happened. The size remained at 5.11GB. Should something have changed? Cause I’m obviously doing something wrong otherwise…

Well I’ve tried everything I can possibly think of and everything you’ve all suggested but it still wont encode. 🙁

Lastly, I uninstalled, clean scripted and re-installed and I updated to 4.2 but still the same issue. I now give up.

Might look at doing what Joe suggested as I really like the effect but if it turns out to be too much of a pain in the backside (which I think it will) I’ll try and do the colour correction manually.

Thanks all for your help. Although its been a huge inconvenience, I’ve learnt a bit more!

    Chris.

Still not working. Tried encoding just that track with only the MB Looks effect on it but it still fails. What I have noticed though is that it does keep failing at approx the same point every time. Between 50 to 55mins in…

    Any other suggestions?

Can anyone advise me on what I mentioned earlier about updating to 4.2?

    Thanks.

First of all, thanks very much for your responses. I really appreciate the advice at this stressfull time.

Ann – In regards to updating to PP4.2, from past experience and from talking to others, updating during the middle of a project is a big no no! Just in case your system/software takes a dislike to it and potentially losing/corrupting your project thus far. I’ve downloaded the 4.2 update but unless anyone can assure me its not going to mess anything up I wont be installing it until after I’ve finished this current job. Or its possible to roll-back to 4.0 if there is an issue?

Joe – The footage is standard definition. I did start off by adding the effect to the wide footage track first and then rendering it out but then I continued to add the other tracks/effects and edit. I’m now if the process of encoding just that track with effect on to see if it works. I’ll let you know.

    Thanks again guys.

Sorry my fault – by signing I just mean an “interpreter”. The film will have a guy in the bottom right hand corner doing BSL. Thats not my problem.

So to clarify – if the footage is over 1.5 it wont fit on a standard dvd? correct? I certainly dont want to lose quality!! So is it as simple as popping a DL disc in and selecting DL mode in Encore?

July 13, 2006 at 6:25 pm in reply to: Editing .VOB Files

So if I convert my vob files (from the DVD) to avi (using winAVI) I will be able to import these into premiere? both video and sound? Will I lose any quality converting to avi?

Also the sound volume on the dvd is really quiet. Will I be able to increase it once in Premiere?

Thanks for the replies. I wish I could say I understood everything. I’ve never really used Premiere so its all very daunting.

Initially I tried using DVD shrink (start/end feature) but it wouldn’t allow me to edit per second only every few (if you get my meaning) so this was no good as i need to be precise. Is there another DVD ripper that can do precise? or can Shrink do it and its me thats not doing it right?

Think premiere is definately what I need to use though as I may need to add my own sound underneath at a later date. But this isn’t important at the mo.

I have a program called winAVI so I could convert the vob files into somethink else that premiere would maybe prefer???

What is the MainConcept plugin? would I have to pay for this? And would this be the easiest way to accomplish my task?

Sorry for all the qusetions but I really appreciate your help.
