Bryan I’ve heard that doing it that way will yield lots of undesirable artifacting.

What I do if I know for a fact that SD will be the only output required
by the client (and they agree as well) is to capture the footage through
the analog component inputs and set our multibridge extreme up to do an anamorphic downconversion.

So we effectively capture in SD in fcp and the multibridge downconverts it just before ingest into fcp. The quality is top notch doing it this way, but because its HDV you also have to capture the audio as analog and there is no batch capturing available. (wish fcp would allow just firewire as deck control and our sound input)

What exactly does this 5.5.1 update do?

I just upgraded to 5.5 and I never upgrade unless I’m having a specific issue. (don’t fix it if its not broken lol)

I don’t know either and I wish they would not be confusing us like that.

There is a similar setting somewhere for BlackMagic 10-bit and next to that is says (DV10).

We know its digital video and that its 10 bit.

No need to confuse people into thinking its related to “DV” footage.

The only real options that work is windows media and mpeg2 transport streams.

Connect your DVI-D output to your barco projectors DVI-D input.

thats all there is to it really.

[Christopher DeAngelus] “My question is, am I forgetting something? Is there a switch in Final Cut I may have ignored that is bringing the video in too hot?”

If I’m not mistaken there is a 0 & 7.5 setting in the preferences of FCP if that helps you.

and to throw in a curve, how about the “superblack” -7.5 signal?

  • I’ve been doing both and so far it is not an issue.

There is no tearing when going from digibeta (486)
to mpeg2 for DVD (480) which is a relief.

I think its cropping the 6 lines which are in overscan territory anyways.

Adam I have the nearly the exact setup as you.

We’re using the Dell 24″ LCD on our MBE DVI and a sony BVM-20F1U CRT
    on SD-SDI.

    We’re “satisfied”

I’m looking into getting a Sony PVM-20L5/1 CRT for HD though.

speaking of which, steve wargo mentioned in the HD forum that
http://www.samysdv.com (310-450-4365) is advertising some of those
sony HD crt’s right now if your interested in an HD CRT without
    busting the bank.

    wierd.

I’ve seen nothing but -20 here in the pacific northwest.
( -20 digibeta, 0 Betasp) Thats including all the major network affiliates.

Everything I do goes out with -20 tone.

What I do see a lot of is people sending out tapes with tone at nearly 0 digital (like an audio cd) and the audio levels are super loud as well.
