change the render codec under the sequence settings to ProRes.
export as a ProRes file.

adam, just get that sony pvm monitor, it will work perfectly for your situation.

4:2:2 is uncompressed.
apple 10-bit & 8-bit uncompressed work this way.

Final Cut Pro is “supposed” to handle multiple formats/framerates in the same sequence. We all have learned through experience the framerate part doesn’t work at all and generally do it the way Jeremy suggests or up-convert and frame change to a common rate so the sequence is all one single rate.

I’ve done a lot of HD 23.98 non-broadcast content to tape (film festivals etc…) through a kona card and not had one complaint.
what’s the exact issue?

I don’t have that problem with final cut, but if the files ever need to be edited on a pc or copied to a pc formatted disk it definitely won’t work.

see if you can properly calibrate bars to the nec monitor with the blue only switch.
if you can do that and the contrast pluge it “might” work.
if not, look into getting a sony pvm14L5 crt monitor, they regularly show up on the cow classifieds and ebay for less than $ 1,000 and work very well.
I assume you have a matrox or blackmagic or aja video output card to hook it up to.

can you create new ones and they too fail?

just use xdcam transfer (a separate free app from sony)to convert them for fcp and set the sequence to render in prores.
it’s that simple.
