I have a large label on the top of my deck warning users of this issue. I make sure each client is fully aware of the potential problem, and the replacement cost. I wonder why a broadcast product would be so susceptible to this problem. You would think they would place a fuse or breaker on the back of the deck to protect the firewire board. Perhaps a future product will include some protection?

800 works great… preferred in my opinion.

Keep your edit at the same frame rate you shot in. Final cut or your mastering deck can add the pulldown to 29.97 later. This method will ensure a consistent cadence.

Nope, not true. You can edit Varicam material at 23.98 uncompressed via HD-SDI. You need to make sure your hardware is compatible with that frame rate.

The Varicam does not have a firewire out.

P2 cards can be read by final cut pro 5. Be sure you have the latest update. Also, you need a 7200 rpm drive to view the footage in full res.

    Emanuel,

No worries, we’ve all been there before, pulling our hair out. Here is another web site which may be of help:

Looking forward to trying that wine!
