  • Question for Jan P2 card for laptop

Posted by Tony on January 14, 2006 at 4:28 pm

    Jan,

Will the P2 card mount up on both a pc and mac powerbook or is the P2 card exclusive PC laptops? I noticed the HVX brochure has a photo of a Panasonic pc laptop to illustrate the P2 card.

Does the P2 card need to be formatted in the camera first for the powerbook or pc laptop to see it?

If I format the card in the laptop first will the camera accept this or must the camera exclusively be used to format the P2 card.

Can I use multiple cameras to format several P2 cards and then use any card in any camera?
OR must the card which is to be used match the camera which formatted it?

Does the HVX-200 offer more than one formatting one for pc and one for mac or should it be universal for both?

The powerbook I tried to view the P2 card on did not see the card even when I tried to see it via disc utilities.

    Thanks,

    Tony Salgado

P2 cards can be read by final cut pro 5. Be sure you have the latest update. Also, you need a 7200 rpm drive to view the footage in full res.

There is a driver on a CD included with the camera that alows the card to mount on a Powerbook just like a drive. The cards are formatted as FAT32 by the camera or other P2 device, and this works in both Macs and PCs.

    Thanks Jesse,

That was the info I was seeking.

I assume that it should not matter if a card is formatted in one camera and is used in another as in the case of any storage medium when used on multiple computers.
