THanks,
So use Fat32 for external hard drives that are connected to PC laptop? Ok
Is there any chance that a FAT32 hard drive can connect to a Mac laptop for offloading the P2 cards and then connect to a PC and transferred to a PC suite?
thanks

Thanks for the feedback Shane,
Actually though I’m a little more confused now.
Should I then have one Mac Laptop with Mac OS Journaled formated external hard drives that I use to give clients P2 content that are going to be editing on a Mac
AND
A PC laptop connected to a PC formatted hard drive for the PC based editors?
Goodness…
Well even if that’s the case I was told, have read, AND have been burned by FAT32 formatted hard drives when used with Mac’s. This is why I use the Mac OS Journaled formatting.
But what is the right thing for Hard drives that are going to be transferred through a PC laptop for use on another PC based avid station?
I am worried because I can’t believe that Fat32’s file size problems only effect Macs. Is there a PC based formatting that doesn’t have the file size issues?
Sorry to be in a bit of a panic about it but I have to offload content to just such a PC client tomorrow.
Any help would be much appreciated.
THANKS!

ok thanks for the lead on Quartz Composer.
I have to admit I’ve never used it before. I’ve been trying to download it and it appears as though I have to download xcode? a 1 gig application file…
is this right?
Isn’t there a plugin or template out there for motion?
thanks

just learned this cable I was wondering about is impossible for engineering reasons

Ok I found a product for my tower.
for $160 you can get a pci card to an external pcmcia slot adapter with a 1 foot cable. this allows you to put the p2 slot on your tower and load the P2 cards from the front of the computer rather than the back.
They say it has been tested on G4’s and P2 cards and it works great.
So for $100 more dollars you can get a P2 bay infront of your mac G5 tower.
I’m also going to order one and try it out. Sorry but $2000 for Panasonic’s 5 P2 bay adapter or $160 for a 1 slot after market product…
with a 14 day return policy I’m spending the $160.
Anyone forsee any problems?

Shawn I’d like to know if the Mac PCI card adapter works as well. I wonder if there is also a extension cable that has a PCMCIA male on one side to go into the back of the tower and a PCMCIA female adapter on the front … so that you could insert and remove cards from the front of your workspace instead of behind the tower.
I just can’t believe there is no way to transfer content off the P2 cards via the camera’s firewire or usb2 ports. I have dne it through FCP capture window but that’s not at all what i’m trying to do…
Am I wrong? Is there some means of connecting the HPX500 or HVX200 to a laptop or tower and transfering content to other hard drives?
when do you expect to know about the SIIG PCI to PCMCIA adapter?
-
HPX500 that is… pretty excited as you can see

I unfortunately don’t know the answer to this question but I am buying an hpx500 and I’d be interested in knowing the answer. If anyone finds out please post and let us know.
Thanks!

Sorry to bring the thread back but I’m wondering if there was an answer to this question? can you eject the P2 card without ejecting the whole device? Eliminating the restart need?
