The text should be parented to the null. Open the positing parameters of the null X,Y,Z and copy/paste this to the text layer’s X,Y,Z to locate it exactly where the null is in 3D space. If you don’t see Z axis available on your text then it needs to be converted to 3D text first before copying the parameters. Once you locate the text to the same location of the null and parent it, you can delete the keyframes for the X,Y,Z on the text layer. It will use the Null’s positioning at that point. The null also needs to be 3D but it already probably is from the track.
Thanks Chris

I am currently running 10.7.4 on all machines. I am confident that if there’s something seriously wrong, it will be addressed in an update soon. For the sake of all the motion designers/compositors out there let’s hope so.

Hey Floh, this is just a mess.
You were right… I had two versions of red installed. I did as you said and uninstalled all of it including media100, all preferences and everything i could find that would be a conflict. I re-installed media100 and it seemed to be working. I can create a title with no issues in red, but when I go to apply it locks up media100. The only success is using the templates.
Additionally, we tried to capture today with HD and SD and are having serious issues. Media100 wont actually let me capture using either acquire or the start function.
Is it possible there is a conflict still happening on this system with previous FCP kONA DRIVERS. I had initially had final cut on this system, but used the uninstall application available to get rid of FCP studio2
Also, we have tested the card and it works fine as long as we don’t launch media100.
Many questions????
Your expertise would be much appreciated

Hi Floh,
Leapord with vers.12.6 with red 4.3. I have tried setting up all my destinations including titles to an internal high speed hard drive as well as separating media to the internal high speed drive and titles to the system hd.Still no luck.

We have cloned this system to an external drive for optional boot purposes. We need to build an new system using media100 on the same aja card, but need to avoid driver conflict issues.

Floh, I should also mention we are running leopard on this machine. Also, I need some clarification on a few things. Are you suggesting a dual boot system with FCP on one side of the partition and Media100 the other? Does this mean I need to install the other (AE, PSD Ill) apps on both sides of the partition? Or is it as simple as partitioning the system drive so both NLE’S can reside without seeing each others drivers.
Would it be better to call and work out some of the details
Any help would be great

December 7, 2007 at 2:17 pm in reply to: nascar text follow track point with scaling arrow or pointerHi all,
OK here was my solution and thanks to those suggestions that were submitted. (1) I Tracked the position and scale of the car as it moved. (2) In the same comp I created a text layer and a solid layer. (3) I applied the corner pin plug-in to the solid and adjusted it to look like a pointer under my text. I also adjusted the anchor point of the pointer so the anchor was at the top of my pointer (4) I parented the text to the pointer.
(5) In the same comp I created a null. (6) I used the pickwhip to create 2 expressions that attached the 2 lower corner pin points (the point of the pointer) to the position of the null.
(7) I transfered the tracked information to the pointer layer so it will follow the car. (The anchor point may have to be adjusted to get the pointer and parented text exactly where you need it).
(8) Now the null can be hand animated to position the point of the pointer or tracking data can be applied to the pointer for effortless positioning.Any who are interested I can email the comp or a small movie.
This was fun to figure out.Chris Abolt
