    Thank you, Chuck.

I seem to have an ongoing problem logging in and posting. For now it seems OK.

I don’t know why things have been posted in more than one location. I saw your NewTek Tricaster ID so I thought I’d mention we use a TriCaster TCXD300.

Can I please have your NewTek email address?

    Thank you,

I respond only when I believe I have something substantive to offer or have a question like this one: “Did JVC send out firmware updates? We’ve got three GYHM-700s and one GYHM-100. I’ve not seen any notifications from JVC (the cams are registered). Should I go to the JVC USA site to retreive firmware updates?”

    Thanks.

And Ryan, what model TriCaster do you have? We have an XCD-300.

    Chuck,

We have three GYHM-700 cams and have not encountered this problem.

Your QT file won’t open. Re-post it maybe?

October 10, 2012 at 1:39 pm in reply to: Keep getting an invalid media on hm 700

    Chuck,

The Micro-SD card/adapter might be your problem.

Although I’ve never used one in any of our three 700 cams, I’ve gotten the “invalid media” message on sub-brand (inexpensive) SD cards.

JVC recommends Toshiba, Panasonic and SanDisk. I’ve used those as well as Transcend without problems. Cards must be formatted before they can be used. Consider a full-size card in one of those brands; prices continue to come down.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Richard,

And thanks very much for your prompt and helpful response. What is the model number of the iPad prompter system?

    Thanks,

August 10, 2011 at 3:43 pm in reply to: Welding Video

In addition to everything said, I shot a series of instructional welding videos. The instructor’s requirement was to be able to see the arc, bead, and piece.

I used a JVC GY-HM700CHU camera and experimented with different grades of welder’s shields to get the right combination of f-stop, shutter speed, filter and light. I cut the welding lens to fit into a 4″X4″ matte box filter holder. I pre-set focus, panned, zoomed and monitored on an LCD monitor. I poked the cam lens out between welder’s screens and the results were good. Audio was off-cam “live” and V.O.

Welding equipment manufacturers and others have examples on YouTube, etc.

(Still frames of flames, sparks and smoke are very impressive.)

    Hope this helps.

April 15, 2011 at 6:13 pm in reply to: HM700 is grainy, suggestions?

    Hi Ben,

We have three GY-HM700U cams used in both studio and field production. Two have the Fujinon Th17X5BRMU lenses. Cam settings are 1280X720 at 60p HQ. We use Toshiba, Sandisk, Transcend and iData 16GB cards without any troubles. We’ve been physically taking the cams directly to our Macs to transfer files as it seems if you pop the cards and put them in a card reader it’s necessary to reformat the cards when you put them back in the cam. (You can’t pick up where you left off like a cassette. Are we doing something wrong?)

In both applications they make beautiful pix and are thoroughly reliable except for the “dead pixel” syndrome which is a known problem. (It happens on the cam which came off the first JVC production line a few years ago.)

We recently took delivery of a GY-HM100U and haven’t thoroughly used it yet. I loused up the first field shoot as I inadvertently kept triggering several buttons as I cradled, held and moved the cam around.

    I hope this helps.

    A very nice sample. Thanks.

I just got a 100 and shot some outdoor test footage in a variety of lighting conditions. The results are fine (no blurring).

What brand and size SDHC cards are you using?

Where is the Philip Bloom review?

YouTube has certainly lowered the bar to new heights for video quality, yet nearly everything has decent audio.

I adopted an orphaned Radio Shack model 33-3013 6′ wired lav. The price was right (free), and a new battery did the trick.

Easy solutions prepare us for hard problems!

    Thanks, Alf.

That is a bit pricey. I need a quick solution (which I hope will be found in the famed “bin”), as I just persuaded a spanish instructor that the Zi8 meets her needs.

I also just armed a horticultural instructor with the new Sony Bloggie. I believe its touch-screen technology gets one bound up in functions and will distract from the work at hand. The instructor was wowed by it so I’ll be interested in his experience. (The Sony Bloggie will not accept an external mic, which was the “buy” decision on the Zi8.)

    Kind regards,
