[Steve Connor] “Yes, been editing on PPro today, look at this unusable mess “

lol… I kinda like the panels in Pr. However I do feel that when you get a lot of media and piles of bins, X is exponentially easier to navigate without lots of clicking/tabbing etc. Same media and timeline, Pr and X…

[Oliver Peters] “A lot of us would like to see Apple develop a roles-based mixer as a feature within FCPX. “

They recently had a patent approved for exactly that. Who knows when/if it’ll be added, but it appears to be on their radar…

EDIT: Braden Storrs has a good writeup for those who haven’t seen it… https://thefcpxeditor.tumblr.com/post/137629234928/fcpxrolesmixer

  • [Jeremy Garchow] “Getting FCPX Projects/Libraries to almost any other “high end” system (Smoke, Flame, Adobe, Resolve) is relatively easy. Getting to Avid and working with Avid, is a huge pain in the rear.”

According to Micheal Angelo, he ran some tests taking fcpxml into Flame (mac version) and was “amazed” at how well it translated. Like, almost perfectly. MC is really the odd app out here, even going from/to ProTools from MC can be hit or miss. Going into/out of Adobe apps is easy. It could be better better, but the version of xml that they support is ancient. Pretty sure they don’t have any motivation to update to fcpxml…

  • [Oliver Peters] “Marketing based on “cheaper” is a slippery slope, because clearly the cost of post has little impact on the total cost of producing TV shows (pilots or otherwise) and films.”

I agree. For what it’s worth, the marketing – lately anyway – is about easier. Faster. That is good. And the only things you need to add to X for “apex pro” work are EDL-X and X2Pro. 2 apps. That most people who use an NLE, *any* NLE will never need. BFD.

Every NLE relies on 3rd parties, for better or worse.

[Andrew Kimery] “Apple releasing X gave Avid a reprieve and PPro an opening (both things those NLEs desperately needed).”

I think we’re approaching a “tipping point”… Maybe. Or not. 😉 However, in the last 2 weeks WTF has appeared at a Producers Guild sponsored screening Q/A, At ACE, And on Wednesday at the DGA for a screener and Q/A. People are… interested.

There is no “right way” to edit in X, or anything really. Figure out what works for you, whatever gets you from A to B fastest/most efficiently, and then do that. 😉

[James Culbertson] “Anyone have any other suggestions for what to do?”

That’s an odd one, have you done the traditional trashing of the render/cache files? Are there a lot? A stop-
gap workaround might be to export as png and then recut them in?

March 6, 2016 at 6:44 am in reply to: FCP X to Adobe Audition

[David Mathis] “I will consider Logic. What hardware based mixer would be compatible? Looking at something from Mackie. Thanks in advance.”

Logic does pretty much any control surface, I imagine audition does too. To get Roles to Audition you’ll need X2Pro as it doesn’t support fcpxml. Or X to CC, but you’ll lose the roles, it’ll come in as it does in Pr.

There are no tracks in FCP X Bill.
