Absolutely not. I mean, I look at Mandy occasionally as well. I am thankful I’m not freelancing. All I can say is that the more I use X, the more I like it.

people have reported some weirdness withe certain preset titles on new iMac’s with 680 GPU’s, which I think you have. Apple supposedly aware and fixing it… See if there’s a drop shadow turned on in the video or text inspector and turn it off. You may be experiencing something different, but doing this solved a title render/playback problem I was having on the same iMac. And don’t use the “pixie dust” preset. I don’t know why anyone would, lol, but it’s really messed up…

I wonder… if anyone knows if the FCP7 dmg would instal after some kind of file structure (folder) modification… as a work around?
“Can you mount the dmg? If so, is there a file somewhere on it (in a folder or something) with the extension .mpkg? the “install final cut” thing might not run, but if you can find the actual installer (the mpkg thing) maybe it will run? Just a random thought which may be completely wrong….
edit: I am wrong… are you sure the installer you ave is for final cut 7? Because the FCS 2 (FCP 6) installer won’t work at all, but the FCS 3 (final cut 7) installer will. Maybe you updated to 7 somewhere along the line but have an installer for 6? You can install an update version of 7 as long as you have your *original* serial # as well as the one for the updater. No problem. 🙂 FWIW, I’d invest in a USB Superdrive, especially if you have no other Mac’s around to use disc sharing…
Also, assuming you’ve got a fairly complete sequence, when you open it in X or Pr, your head is going to explode. Since you own it, I’d see what I could do to get 7 installed so you can work, and then open it in X or Pr to get used to them first.

So then I actually have to find a Mac with FCP7 on it so that I can open my project and export an XML file. Correct?

I’m not sure why either. I think I have read that my Mac’s HDD would have to partitioned to run both FCP7 and FCPX on the same Mac. When I go to instal FCP7 the little FCP box is greyed-out. FCPX and PP6 is already on the system.
“6 won’t work, since your project is newer (7) it won’t open. You don’t need to partition, they just can’t both run at the same time. I’m not sure why you can’t install either, i just installed 7 on a brand new machine. I used a new FCP studio (FCP 7.0.3) install DVD though. I read somewhere that some of the older installers used PPC code, and that won’t work on OS X lion and above. 🙁
