[Jeremy Garchow] “It’s nice work, Charlie. I hope you feel good about it no matter how much they tell you FCPX isn’t good for anything. :)”
Thanks Jeremy. At this point, it doesn’t bother me at all what “they” say. Whether it’s your main NLE or not, everyone should have X in their arsenal. It lets one easily do a lot of very useful things that “they” are missing out on… Like, you know, make cat videos like this… 😉

“Just curious, how come? You still export EDL’s, Audio AAF’s and Video AAF’s if needed right? Other than no OMF, (which is a zombie format that must die, like FCP 7 lol), it’s the same stuff right?

[Shane Ross] ” moment ago you said that FCX was used in multi-million dollar campaigns and features”
It is, I’ve used in on more campaigns than this one, I use it all the time. And i’ve heard it’s been used on some features… 😉
[Shane Ross] “but now say you aren’t using it for “logical reasons.””
No, I said logistical. Different word. 🙂
[Shane Ross] “What are they?”
The “logistical” reason was the fact that 4 other editors were on the same campaign using 7 and/or Premiere, Didn’t make sense to add a 3rd NLE to the pile. I certainly could have if I wanted to. Like I said, I did all the fun stuff in X.
[Shane Ross] “is there something about the app itself, or Premiere Pro…that is making it the choice for Vulcans? “
lol… maybe it is the choice for Vulcans… or Klingons?

[Scott Witthaus] “It’s ok, Charlie.”
No worries… Hey, I’m cutting the spots in Premiere for logistical reasons. But… I’m doing all the fun stuff in X, since I don’t rent the other 2 or 3 Adobe apps which would be needed to do things like this. : -)

[David Roth Weiss] “It’s about time you figured out what FCPX was ideally suited for…”
Creating stuff that’s used in multimillion dollar advertising campaigns for multimillion dollar movies? Yes, ideally suited. Plus, ya know… cats!

[Tim Wilson] “Charlie, the presets you make in Motion will carry over to your work in Media Composer. LOL”
Perfect! Actually, I dig Boris’s stuff, and did check them out. As usual, they look great but, well I’m no cheapskate (hell, I *bought* MC and I really never use it), but 700 (or 1200 so I can use them across NLE’s) is… a bit much.
It sucks, but, — For FCP X anyway — many of the bits in there are available for free or pretty inexpensively. It would be totally worth it in a multi NLE environment, sorta like the Red Giant Universe pile of stuff.

[Herb Sevush] “I have certain video transitions that are part of the look of the show and I have to go in and tweak every parameter every time — grrrr, makes me think of switching to X ….”
lol… no need to switch, just use whatever works. 🙂 And while you can of course have a default transitions in X, the only way to save “custom” transitions is to create them in Motion. It’s a very cool way of doing it, but do I miss the quick FCP 7 drag transition to favorites folder method when I’m in a hurry. Which is always…
Now saving Effects presets in X made from any combination of Video Effects and Transform Parameters? Very nice.
