  • I say we have a hat eating barbecue if Cleaner gets an update on the mac.

Also, per Sorenson Video 3 encoding, it sounds like you are probably encoding using only the standard version that you have access to with QT Pro. I would highly recommend getting the Pro version of the SV3 encoder. It can save you 25% the bitrate while still looking better.

    Would recommend Squeeze for this.

I think this is a bug with Compressor 2. I have had so many errors with the framing options in Compressor 2 that I don’t even worry about enabling any of them. If Compressor 2 is your only option though, you may be able to do a work-around by cropping and encoding to whatever your source codec is without scaling. Then use this file to compress from.

Those numbers sound about right and what Ben stated is a good explanation of how keyframes are supposed to work. It is almost impossible to get the same file-size for two encodes at even the exact same settings. And as long as your results aren’t producing sizes that are drastically different (over 10%), then I would say you are doing Ok and not to worry about it.

Too bright on what? On your desktop monitor or a broadcast monitor? You can’t trust ANY desktop monitor for video, as the changes in luminence can vary greatly between computer to computer.

There are some formats and codecs that Compression Master does not support at this time as inputs. Your best bet is to contact their support directly and let them know what format you are attempting to use. They will probably have you upload a file to their ftp and have a fix for you in the next release.

Sounds like the Avid DV codec is either missing or corrupted. Did you just update QT? Try reinstalling the Avid codec, or using a different export codec from Avid.

You should definitely check out one of Ben’s compression books. You can find links to them under his profile.

Ben, sorry it took me so long to get back on here. My comparisons are of WMV MP. When I stated lower resolutions, I have to admit to drawing a total blank on CM’s AVC encoding at the time. I agree that it is very good. I haven’t been totally impressed with it at HD resolutions (most likely due to no multi or two pass abilities), but for smaller framsizes, it is quite good.

What video codec are you encoding to? Sounds like you are using video codec that isn’t installed on the PC. Also, you can try taking your encodes to a PC with QT Pro installed where the movie does play fine and choose to do a Save As. I have seen instances where just resaving a movie on the PC will solve the problem.
