Sounds really bad, unless someone dropped tomato sauce on the camera sensor. Have you been filming any lasers or such?

If you’re new to video then I’d say get a second hand Canon 550D. Essentially it’s a 7D without the extras but it takes some pretty good video footage, we shot a couple of productions on it and we’re very happy with the outcome. Once you start to get that feeling that the camera is not delivering (note* when your ability increases you’ll know when you’ve out grown the camera. If you suck then it don’t matter what camera you have, it’ll still be sucky footage). Take your time, reward your ability with better gear and enjoy the process.

I can only suggest the D800. We’ve been using it with the Ninja 2. As a combination, they are fantastic. The D800 is also an awesome stills camera, we’ve used it all over Africa and had no problems. Either go with the Nikon lenses or if you have deep pockets then get some Zeiss lenses. I’ve also heard some very good things about the new Tamaron and Sigma ranges.

You’re client might be cheap but you also have to stand up to them. Why should there be free stock music? One site we use is Audio Jungle, some excellent tracks there at pretty good prices, plus each month they give a track away free.

There ain’t that much difference in the operating of the FS100 and the FS700. We’ve used the Vortex Media for both cameras and it’s spot on.

We’re busy using the Nikon D800 cameras for a multitude or corporate videos and broadcast productions. We’ve been really happy with the results. Nice thing is we’re also using the Atomos Ninja 2 coupled to the D800 for the broadcast shoots and getting exceptionally pleasing results.
