    Thanks for your help.

I’ve read the track and smooth features and have applied several tracks to the clip. Understand, there isn’t a single pixel in the beginning of the clip that is still in frame at the end of the clip. I was filming a group of dolphins in the beginning of the clip when another pair came so I panned with the new pair which was moving faster and I stayed with them. So there isn’t a single pixel available from beginning to end.

Also, I was able to find the smooth feature in the HUD or inspector or anywhere. And the help manual only mentioned how to smooth te tracks, not he image.

Again, I apologize for my elementary knowledge and appreciate any and all help.

Thank you so much for your reply.

I apologize for my elementarty knowledge, but knwo I am a marine biologist first and then a film editor. I also have no experience with Motion so I’m sort of doing a crash course in it since FCP7’s smoothcam effect isn’t working properly.

Could you direct me in where I can find the smooth feature in Motion please? and how can I change the Motion canvas to 1440 x 1080 which is what the clip is filmed? I see the canvas is 1920×1080.

Again, thank you very much for any and all help.

Are you able to de-interlace in export? And still keep the footage in 1080i for blu ray purposes?

I have my (2) 2TB ext hard drives through firewire 800. The one that has the capture footage has 118gb free and the other 1.52Tb free.

I’m going to give Motion a try to see if it cleans it.

I am also having the same problem but only in export. The clip plays fine in canvas and viewer. It even jitters after exporting to Blu-ray disc (via FCP7 Share) and export to file. The jitters are identical though. Stumped over here.

Thanks again for your advise Tom.

So I installed FC Studio 3 (I only needed FCP7, DVD Studio, Color and Compressor) and I noticed that FCP7 was listed as an upgrade and not an install as the other components where.
Does this mean FCE upgraded to FCP7? Should I delete (uninstall) FCE from my computer or does FCP7 need it?

    Aloha

    Thank you Tom:
I always enjoy your insight and am flattered that you answered my question.
The film is 95% complete All that is left is to polish it with the smooth cam filter, reason for buying fcp7, and to create the dvd, reason for buying DVD Studio Pro.
I have very elementary graphics in the film, using only LiveType that came with the FCE, so I guess I’ll just keep it in AIC 1080i60.
If you’d like to have a look at the trailer, it literally has all the graphics used in the entire film:

Please know that I am a marine biologist first and a film maker 2nd, so please excuse the elementary production.

Also, I will be editing a different movie using footage that I currently have due out this fall. I will be using some footage from this current film in the next film, though not much, about 10% of the next film will have footage from this one. Should I edit the next film in ProRes and how easy is it to do the conversion?

    Thanks again…ALOHA!

    Thanks for the response.
I remeber using my friend’s FC Pro and his HDV-1080i captures for a 1hr tape were about 14-15gb’s. That’s why I was amazed to see the 40gb files.

    Thanks again!

    Thank you Simon for responding.
Some background, I’m a marine biologist using video to collect data so I’m not doing any heavy graphics work. I do sometimes sell my clips to a HD station but I just send them the raw footage. I am shooting 1080i HD so I have my FC setting to HDV1080i60.
Currently, I have 60hrs of tape that is taking up approx 700gb on a 1tb ext harddrive so I was thinking of setting the other 1tb ext hd as the video/audio render drive and using it as the drive where the actual FC file is stored. In other words, 1 ext hd is used for capture purposes only and the other is for storing the actual working fc file (*.fcp) and for video/audio rendering. Is this a suggested set-up? If not, what would be recommended?
Also, can you name the folder structure I should expect with this configuration?

    Thanks again.
