The AJA T-Tap out of FCPX 10.4 is displaying bars correctly now. So re installing FCPX 10.4 has fixed the problem with the AJA device.

However the bars are still out of spec when using BMD UltraStudio Mini Monitor and UltraStudio 4K Extreme. This is with the current BMD driver 10.9.11

Yes the library in FCPX 10.4 is set to REC 709 color space

    All drivers are recent

Does anyone else see issues when output via thunderbolt I/O? I have tested AJA T-Tap BMD UltraStudio Extreme 4k and UltraStudio Mini Monitor. Bars for instance look fine on the internal FCPX 10.4 scopes. However when outputting to my Tektronix the bars are not good. I am seeing a shift in the Red and Green channels and out of gamut errors.

If I take the same QT file and bring it into FCPX 10.3 and output to the Tek scope I do NOT see the issue.

With FCPX 10.4 the bars are never looking correct when using a thunderbolt IO device connected to my Tektronix WVR-5000. The bars look fine on the scopes within FCPX. I have tried this with an AJA T-Tap, BMD UltraStudio Extreme 4K and BMD UltraStudio Mini. Get the same results on video output to the scopes. Even if I use the old Bars generator that the Ripple Training guys ported over to FCPX instead of a QT file.

If I put up the same quicktime files in PP and Resolve 12.5 and 14 and the bars look fine on output to the scopes using the same I/O box.

If I put the same quicktime files up in FCPX 10.3 the bars look fine on output to the scopes using the same I/O box.

Would love to know if I am missing a setting someplace ?

Very Strange. Are you on FCPX 10.4 ?

This is what I see when I output bars via FCPX 10.4 via BMD Ultrastudio 4K Extreme on my Tek. When I look at the same bars going though the same hardware via Resolve 12.5 Studio or 14 Studio the bars are fine. FYI this is after I pulled out the BMD Uncompressed codec as you mention in another post.

Using one release back from the current BMD driver. Perhaps it is a BMD issue.

    Hey Jeremy

Sorry for the delay. Had to get some jobs out ☺

My color space override is set to Off and the Camera LUT is set to None.

Not sure if the below google drive link will work but, I put a short ProRes file up with Bars. This is an export of Avid media from FCPX 10.4. Wondering how these bars look on your end. My feeling is there something amiss with 10.4 and its introduction of HDR. I think it is getting confused and does not decode the file properly as a result but that is just a hunch.

Let me know if there is a better way to get you the file. 1.3 Megs or so.

    Thx

The files I am working with are show masters that came from the network. All files are approximately 18 gigs or so. Can’t upload them.

No LUT to my knowledge is being applied. If I look in the info tab is says REC 709. Not sure how to override the color space. Will have to look into that.

Perhaps I can export bars from R14 and post for you?

    Thanks for your help!

Hi Jeremy. Thanks for posting. I pulled out the BMD codec from the quicktime folder in the library and restarted my machine. Made a new FCPX library and imported on of the DNxHD 175 MXF files into FCPX 10.4 and still got out of gamut errors. However the contrast was better.

I will continue to export this project via R12 as the Avid MXF are read correctly in that app AND I am able to export a quicktime with 4 channels of audio to deliver to the network ☺

    OSX 10.12.6
    FCPX 10.4
