Wow, thanks guys. I’m just getting into FCP as my every day editor at work and am having a “fun” time learning all the nuances of the program that I haven’t come across elsewhere when freelancing on FCP systems.

Monitoring on computer monitor, not a broadcast monitor. Canvas is set to 100%. Even in the viewer window the clip doesn’t look great, but definitely a noticeable drop in quality once on the time line. As I said before, in Quicktime Player the file looks great.
I actually changed the end of the sketch and put the graphic over video instead of a solid BG. This helped cut down on any noticeable aliasing (due to a busier background).

DVCPro50 helps (not sure why I didn’t think of trying that codec), but I’m getting some pretty bad ribboning. Applying a Broadcast Safe filter helps. I had tried setting the sequence to uncompressed and wasn’t seeing any change in the aliasing.
This is stumping me because we normally work in DV compression at our studio and I’ve never seen aliasing or ribboning this bad in graphics created by me or our main motion graphics designer.
These settings will work for now since the show doesn’t go live for another week.
