March 31, 2014 at 7:21 pm in reply to: HyperDeck Studio TimeCode issues with Premier CCThe Hyperdeck WILL accept embedded timecode via SDI, that is how the non-pro versions work, but you have to tell it where to look for the timecode in the menu. For embedded timecode I think it’s called “RP188” or something like that.

March 21, 2014 at 7:41 pm in reply to: Essential equipment for broadcasting video to webPersonally I wouldn’t use the TVS or the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. The lack of AUX outputs, DVE and analog audio input on the TVS makes it less than ideal. The ATEM Production 4K is the “replacement” for the TVS and fixed the AUX and analog audio limitations, though still no DVE (ie. Picture in Picture). If you need picture in picture then go a step up to the Production 1M/E 4k (don’t bother with the orignal ATEM 1M/E, you’ll avoid a lot of overheating and adapter hassles)
As for the cameras the Cinema camera is not meant for live studio’s either. It’s designed for shooting hollywood style movies, and requires jumping through hoops to even get it compatible with any of the ATEM switchers. In my opinion there are 2 options, if you are mostly using fixed shots, get cheap HDMI cameras and use HDMI->SDI converters to bring them into the ATEM, and if you are using manned shots get a camera with native SDI output like the Canon XA25, the Sony HXR-NX5U, or Panasonic HPX250

Yes. In ProPresenter put the white text over a black background (also make sure your drop shadow is not black), and in your ATEM edit one of your DSK’s so that is a Linear key and that the KEY and FILL are both set to your computer.

March 12, 2014 at 7:52 pm in reply to: DVI Extender+DecklinkDuo problem with an Extron MGP 464 DIMake sure the Extron is in YUV 422 color mode. Most every other device (laptops, DVD players) will auto negotiate to the correct colorspace. Also TV’s and (most) monitors are capable of displaying both formats, but Blackmagic only support YUV color as used in the television broadcast signals.

February 15, 2014 at 1:52 am in reply to: BMCC -> Decklink Quad -> MediaExpress … &&^%$#!@… MediaExpress -> Decklink Quad -> ATEM TV StudioThe Cinema camera by default is 1080p, the TVS or any pre-4k mixer only supports up to 1080i. In the more recent firmware version of the cinema camera if you go into the menu and set the recording format to 29.97 (or 25 if PAL) and set overlays to Off then the camera will output a 1080i signal compatible with your ATEM TVS

The Teranex is a hardware appliance for working with video signals sending/recieving via a camera, vtr or video router. It does not operate on files. You either use it standalone to up/down/cross convert an incoming video signal from a camera/vtr and send it out in another format, or use it to capture / playback video to/from a camera/vtr to your computer via the thunderbolt connection, allowing you to change the format on the way in or out.

February 3, 2014 at 9:00 pm in reply to: Decklink Mini Monitor not recognized in HackintoshWhat software did you use to try and play video out of it? Remember, the Mini Monitor is not a graphics card and will not show up as a second display to extend your desktop to. When you open up the Blackmagic Control Panel are any of the settings editable?

Yes this is still true. Blackmagic came up with their own proprietary way to inject custom metadata into the program SDI signal which they use for tally information, and it is up to each camera converter (using buttons on the front panel) to decide which “number” to listen for to light it’s tally light. I don’t know of any other manufacturer who has gone through the trouble of reverse engineering the custom metadata to enable support for this one-off blackmagic camera converter product.
