You do NOT need a 3rd party software program to ingest Panasonic AVC HD into FCP 7. I’ve done it before, using Log & Transfer to bring the footage in as Pro Res HD but this time… the Log & Transfer window sees numerous clips but all of them have a duration of 0 and they can not be imported (transferred). The issue seems to be seeeing the NO NAME drive clips correctly. Some stills were also saved from the camera to the SDHC card… could that be confusing FCP?
    Thanks!

Because having options is always preferable to not having options. That’s why!

Thanks! Would ProRes be better than transcoding a quicktime with an Avid video codec?

Actually we removed the firewire from the G5 a FCP froze-up immediately. I’m pretty sure we installed/upgraded everything.

OK, I’ll give the activity monitor a try. Just how much constitutes “hogging” the ram? Also, is anyone aware of Widgets possibly causing conflicts?

No, no firewire drives at all. We’re using SCSI on that system.

OK, live and learn. So could you possibly recommend an upgrade video card for $500 or less? We’re looking for as much “realtime” as possible for that amount of money since we’ll need three. The Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition?

No, of course not. The salesperson didn’t suggest it and it never occured to me to request an upgrade card. Now I know. Education sure is costly.
