you can download a free plugin of episode that allows you to view wmv’s in quicktime and gives you the ability to export WMVs out of compressor via the “export components” option. Do a search on apples website and I’m sure you can find it.

you might be able to get away with out even using the 3d stroke and just applying a stroke on a path on layers that have been juxtaposed in 3D space as it never really curves or turns smoothly, it’s always an angled corner. Than I’d take that entire composition and nest it in another composition and that’s where I’d try applying radial gradients and animating them slowly. Good luck with those super busy areas with tons of lines, that’d take a lot of work I think, and you’d have to apply gradients to those layers specifically I think. If you manage to make the trains make a tutorial and post it, because doing that in after effects would be crazy insane, you would literally go crazy and insane.

January 24, 2008 at 6:12 pm in reply to: Building a new Mac Pro for A.E _ Help Please 🙂I just checked out those webistes Darby, not quite twice as much, but definitely a significant savings especially when you start buying the 4gb chips. I bought 2 2gb chips, looks like I paid about $50 more at crucial, not a big deal when you compare it to apple.
Thanks for pointing those websites out though out, I’ll definitely be utilizing them myself down the road.

January 24, 2008 at 2:11 am in reply to: Building a new Mac Pro for A.E _ Help Please 🙂I got 4gb of RAM from crucial.com, they have a really really user friendly site, you don’t even have to know anything about RAM, and it’s actually made in… AMERICA! what a crazy idea. Apple’s “superior” RAM isn’t even made here. KEEP IN MIND: that when you call for support their going to blame your 3rd party RAM for the problem more than likely, not that they still won’t fix the problem it just gets to be a HUGE pain at times when you’ve got projects mounting and they’re giving you crap about your 3rd party RAM.
Anyways, I got a quad core 2.66 with 5gb of RAM and 2 hardrives and this thing is pretty fast running AE 8.0. HD still can be a bit sluggish though (might be the 85 effects I’ve put on it though too), I’ve never fed it HD footage though. -
do you mean png image sequence or a quicktime movie encoded with the png codec? I have never tried the PNG codec. Maybe I’ll give it a shot. Is it a pretty universal codec?

thanks, I didn’t think it was a quicktime issue, I think I got the problem fixed now.

it sounds like it might, but does that apply any compression to the file though? And if it doesn’t, is it pretty processor intensive, I mean does it take awhile?
-
Yes, I did the same thing. I bought a wacom bamboo about 4 months ago and I absolutely fell in love with it, though it did take awhile to get used to and get really fast with it. I use it for every application, even final cut. I always have it plugged in with a mouse and havn’t had an issue yet. I have had it plugged in with a mouse on windows computers with out an issue, I’ve had it plugged into various mac’s that had either a mighty mouse, or a logitech mouse, and I haven’t had an issue there either. I have also plugged it into a laptop, but I didn’t bother to check the finger pad thing (I HATE those, as I hate laptops too). I’m not sure what would be causing any trouble, the only advice I can give is to check to make sure you’ve installed the correct drivers off of wacom’s website and/or reinstall the correct drivers, and if the problem still persits, contact wacom.

January 14, 2008 at 4:16 am in reply to: Shot Made With Steadycam, How Do You Get The Titels In It?If I understand your situation and question properly, I think you want to apply your motion tracking data to a null object, and then parent your text layer to the null object, that way you can apply keyframes to the text layer, but the text layer will still utilize the motion tracking data, and you won’t have to touch any keyframes generated from the motion tracker.

I’m not sure, I’m thinking no, but I basically use expressions pickwhipping abilities and not much more than that.
A work around I’d sugest is maybe moving the playhead to where you want the layer to “change” expressions and pressing ctl/cmd+shift+D which will duplicate your layer and split it at the point of the playhead, then I would change the expression for the newly created layer.
It’s a very fast and efficient way to do stuff similiar to what your describing.
