The tragically hip, possibly ahead of the market craze was 3-D this, 3-D that. There were tons of great 2-D advancements though!! Go figure.

If you have the drive properly seated in the drive slot, go to to Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility. If you do not see the drive recognized there, like Bob said, you are probably screwed or need to take out a loan for advanced data recovery.

    Johan,
Forget about an MXF file wrapper here. The other acceptable deliverables are much simpler. Deliver the station either an uncompressed 8-bit Quicktime or uncompressed 8-bit AVI file that is anamorphic PAL (720×576 @ 25fps).

April 2, 2010 at 12:24 am in reply to: Hard Drive Fires with Firewire 800

Keep a fire extinguisher handy and post your issue in the audio professionals forum or better yet, despite it not being a SAN related issue, post it in the SAN forum because Bob Zelin is all over that forum and knows a lot about hard drives and how to put fires out…

March 27, 2010 at 12:34 am in reply to: date and time stamp

I would look for a consumer grade MiniDV camera as opposed to a MiniDV deck to accomplish this. Certain models will have inputs to record just like a deck. Remember the old VHS camcorders where someone left the date/time stamp on and then their precious home movies had it supered over everything? Kinda like that…

Turn the VTR off….Power it back up while holding down the eject button before it can realize what has happened, who it is, where it is, what its role in life is. If that doesn’t work, take Mark’s advice – pop the hood on that 1990 Toyota.

Component color bars from what signal generator?
Did you verify that SG source has 7.5 IRE black before running through the VTR?
What does the waveform tell you when there is nothing going into the VTR?

March 10, 2010 at 1:00 am in reply to: Need a show name

How about “Choppers, Ink.” as a play on “Choppers, Inc.”
    Perhaps “Choppers Inkorporated” ???

Of course if you use one of these names, I’ll have to make the show credits in some way. Remember, we offered to help you with your Betamax transfers and never heard back from you…

Hope the show turns out to be a success!
